This is a reality. If JB isn’t going to trade any 1st or 2nd then how can we shed salary? Maybe if we start retaining salary on Roussell and Sutter, but that makes JB look bad.
You don’t like motte and Macewen as cheap 4th liners? I do

Yes I agree with you but it does seem the nhl is selective in who it punishes. It’s been very obvious of players going onto LTIR, look at Hossa’s situation. The Canucks are the only team to be penalized ever by the nhl. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with trying to manipulate the cap rules as best you can. They changed the rule after the contract was signed.

I think it works for all sides. Canucks get out of the contract and LE still gets paid and the league didn’t say anything about Luongo doing it, so there’s a good chance they wouldn’t do anything about it now either. Considering the Canucks are getting screwed by the nhl for Luongos recapture penalty of 3yr times 3 it seems fair.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BStinson</b></div><div>You have this in your trade description, “ Retires and hired back as scout in Sweden for remaining 5mil”. This would be literally compensated for retiring. Assuming I’m reading this and the description right the Vancouver FO would approach Eriksson about riding the bus or just retiring and collecting the same actual dollars owed to be a “scout” a few times a year. Sounds pretty fishy to me but it would be hard to prove this hand shake deal was in place to rid his cap hit for 2 years. I’m not sure if or how much without looking at the contract but there might be cap recapture penalties.</div></div>
Yes that’s exactly what I’m saying and he would be employed as something in the FO. It’s the same thing Luongo did for Florida, just a little less cash involved. About 1mil per for three years. If down the road there’s a penalty then so be it.

NHL scouts I’d wager don’t make 2.5M a year and this would probably be cap circumvention (I think I even used this exact scenario in an example a few days ago). Just did a quick google search, scouts make approximately 40-70k full time or 20k part time.</div></div>

And the beauty of this would be that in 2021 sutter, Baertschi, Benn and Spooners cap penalty come off the books. That’s almost 11mil.
Add to that Pearson probably being replaced hoglander ,Podkolzin and Lind up front. That’s almost 3mil more.
Then the only Dman signed would be Quinn and Myers you could remake your D.
I think Quinn and EP will have no options but to sign bridge deals which will be good for both sides.
Exciting times if played right but LE has to be gone

Signing Markstrom and then Tanev to one maybe max 2 is priority #1 But I think Eriksson not even going to get a training camp invite next year

Eriksson doing anything to walk away from his contract is really optimistic and unrealistic. We'd probably move Sutter and then not sign one of the UFAs. I've been saying this for a long time, but I would rather keep Tanev/Markstrom over Toffoli easily and he should be the one that walks.</div></div>
I think there’s no way he’s on the roster next year or even invited to training camp. You think him retiring and still get paid by the organization is worse then playing the next 2 years down in Utica? Because in Utica the Canucks still pay his salary but at least get 1075000 cap relief. That’d be the end of his nhl career. This could be a opportunity for the next chapter in his life.

Yeah I think there only option is to sign them both to bridge deals. Give Hughes 3x7 and Pete 3x8. Then by the time those contracts run out all the veteran contracts will be off the books. Then they’ll get paid.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PleaseBanMeForMyOwnGood</b></div><div>If the cap goes up you'll be looking at 12+ for those two</div></div>
I think that’s fine too because if you look at if the signed 6 year deals at 9 and 10mil it’s average is the same you save some money now on bridge deals and then give it back later. That gives the team time to get all the bad contracts off the books and it’ll open a 4 year window until we’d have to deal with it. The only reason to sign them long term is if they’ll give you 8 years at 9 and 10mil but I don’t think they’ll.

I think that's a mistake ditching Demko over Mark - but that's my take...</div></div>
I don’t want to lose him either but you can’t let markstrom walk. That move could derail the rebuild if demko doesn’t become a number one. It’s way to early to give him that type of pressure and he doesn’t yet look ready. Unless demko starts playing lights out next season then you could possibly expose markstrom.
Thanks for that I was wondering how to reply!
