I think you would be on drugs not to take this as MTL, like Xhekaj brings grit and personality but 10th OA? You might be able to get a Catton, Sennecke or Eiserman with that pick and it could be a game changer for Montreal's top 6.
You could hopefully get something like without even needing to take away from any of the future top 4 defencemen:
5th OA-Suzuki-Salf
Caufield-Dach-10th OA

I personally think they should just wait for more of the years on his contracts to run out because they aren't good enough yet to NEED to get rid of him and their own 1st and 2nd next year is very valuable to give up.

No shot you have MTL being the one paying sweeteners to ruin their own cap for the next 6 years, Sean Couturier is close to PLD level of bad contract while also being much older.

They have so many wingers and not a ton of centres, why would they take Demidov, he is BPA in my opinion but I think they might take Lindstrom to go behind Fantilli. Either way whoever CBJ doesn't take, MTL does.

Celebrini, Demidov, Lindstrom and Catton are all much better, so unless all 4 are taken (which makes no sense cause all of the top 4 need a RHD) they take the one thats best on that board.

Top 5 teams…who do you want?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rob32sjsharks</b></div><div>Sharks do have some solid prospects, still BPA has to be the focus, don’t look for the sharks to take any Russians this draft though! Our Russian scout was less than worthless and was fired midway through the year so we have little to no scouting on any Russians not over in the states already.
And while Demidov is appealing, getting a guy top 3 with no scouting is very dangerous. Same with Silayev.
I will say the sharks a strongest at LW and LD so if those 2 positions are on the board sharks might reach a bit for a C or RD to fill bigger needs.</div></div>
Very interesting, I never heard about the Russian scout being fired, was he the only Russian scout they had? Also I think RD is more likely if the don't get Celebrini, cause they have Musty and Bystedt as good C prospects. The only RHD I could find that was decent was Hävelid and he definitely isn't 1st pair calibre like a Levshunov or Parekh could be.

Top 5 teams…who do you want?
Sharks need anything, literally just best player available
Chicago needs a top 6 winger or RHD
Anaheim desperately needs a RHD
Columbus needs a centre behind Fantilli, they have reportedly also liked Dickinson specifically
Montreal needs forwards, they have all the left and right shot D's they could need
So assuming that the order right now is the final order, and also Anaheim and Chicago look at next year as a forward heavy draft (which is what I think they will do), I see it going:
1) SJS: Celebrini
2) CHI: Levshunov
3) ANA: Parekh
4) CBJ: Lindstrom
5) MTL: Demidov

With a defence heavy draft like this one, I highly doubt 4 forwards go in the top 5. Especially with how top heavy the Draft is supposed to be next year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drambui</b></div><div>Mtl trading up for demidov after passion on michkov would be such a ridiculous thing. ( in my opinion)
But hughes has been a very short sighted GMs when in comes to drafting, so you never know!
not saying im against it, would judt be so weird.</div></div>
Calling the man that drafted Slafkovsky and Hutson in his first ever draft, "short sighted" is... interesting to say the least, even Reinbacher is the opposite of a shortsighted move, a shortsighted move would be drafting someone for position and rush them up this year, whether you agree with the pick or not, the goal of the Reinbacher pick was to swing for something that every team wants but not many have, a huge top pairing right shot defencemen who can shut down NHL rushes and transition the puck out of the zone.
An example of what they want out of Reinbacher is something like Brock Faber, Faber's best ability is to get the puck off the back wall efficiently for an quick zone exit and rush attack, putting the other team on the backfoot. Turning defence into offence, the way they both go about it is similar, so it makes sense that MTL will try to develop Reinbacher like him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Goalie</b></div><div>Yea we’d totally sell arguably our second best forward this season for a bunch of futures with the main piece being protected!!!</div></div>
You could easily use those assets in the offseason to get a player better then Lafreniere, also I don't believe you are being reasonable if you genuinely believe he is close to 2nd best forward, it's not arguable at all, Panarin, Kreider, Trocheck and Zibanejad have all been head and shoulders above, both offensively and defensively (except Trocheck on defence, his xGA is abysmal, and yet he still has better overall defence stats slightly), advanced stats and the eye test agree, hell even Chytil has better average underlying numbers then Lafreniere (obviously small sample size but it shows my point). He is doing much better for sure, but it still isn't exceptional.
Also of course it is protected, 2025 is an insanely top heavy draft, all of those top 5 players alone hold more value then Lafrienere.
Edit: Coming back to this later, this is insanely lopsided for the Rangers, this package is sizably bigger then the package for Debrincat (the first time), who was coming off a 40 goal season and nearly ppg, but instead it is for a cap dump and 50 point pace player.

The NYR one is probably the most fair one lmao, if I was Montreal's GM I wouldn't do it, cause Goodrow is a cap dump and NY gets the equivalent of 3 first round picks (including MTL's) and a young defencemen. So if this was an offseason move before the draft, NYR gets the better deal.
