Hardly....
It's the only reason why he's considered to be available.
We have both Riley Heidt, and Danila Yurov coming in the system. Hopefully Yurov's 1-year extension to stay with his KHL team next year puts any plans to shop Rossi to bed.
But the point is that the top-six is going to get crowded, very fast.

I'd prefer the Leafs trade for picks and prospects and take back very little salary in a Marner trade.

Uh-huh.
You're right, Minnesota would absolutely trade one of the best defensive defenseman in the league and one of the few you can count on one hand who can skate with and shutdown McDavid on the regular.
A young 22 year old 2C who missed a crucial year of development and who still managed to score 40 points, 21 of them goals, in just his FIRST FULL ROOKIE SEASON. Or did you miss the part where Rossi was a top 3 Calder player for 97% of the season?
And finally to add stupidity to it all. A solid 1B goalie who can play at a Vezina caliber when he's on a roll.
So, yes. Minnesota HAS TO give that up for 1 year of a RW they DON'T need.
Just have Guerin sign the trade forms now. 🙄

Are you f***ing serious, right now?
If you haven't seen them, then you're not paying attention.
There's been at least a dozen within the past 24 hrs. That's at least 10 pages of accumulated ACGM posts bar minimum in that time frame.
And that's when it's non-rush hour traffic on-site during the weekend.
Fact is, it's been closer to 30-40 posts over the course of the week, and around 100 for the past two.
Last week it was Habs fans. Today it was all the Leaf fans and their ridiculous Marner to Minnesota trades. Of which, which player was apart of those trades?
Here's a hint.
Where's Marco?

I think he hasn't found his game yet. I think of a Tuch type player maybe not the same production. I don't see him as a 1st line winger when he's done developing but I can see him as a great 2nd line winger maybe with Ohgren and Ek. Thats why I'm drawn to his game. Paired with Ek, I think we see him flourish into a consistent 50-55 point guy and is tough to push around in the playoffs. I would be all in on Knies. Rossi and a 2nd and I would probably do that

Then you can drop that 2nd right now.
I'd refuse to move Rossi plus for Knies. Because you seriously can not be telling me that a 2nd line WINGER, a less productive one at that, carries more value than a kid who is a 2nd line CENTER at minimum and who has more offensive upside and ceiling. I don't think it's unreasonable or unrealistic to think Rossi could become a 65-70 point player. Ala Eriksson-Ek.
If Toronto wants Rossi, they can send us Knies PLUS thier 2nd. Otherwise, Guerin should be fired for sending a better prospect and player plus a better draft pick for a LESSER prospect and paying them for the pleasure of it.

Is that so?
I don't think that I've seen that from him. Rossi actively forechecks and crashes the net. In spite of his smaller stature and size. From all my viewings of Knies, which isn't extensive, admittedly, he's always been more of a perimeter player. He's strikes me more of a much more offensively talented but still giving off Greenway or Wild Era Coyle has size but doesn't use it vibes. 🤷♂️

I'll be honest, if Toronto wants to mix things up with the core, I'd be fine with trading Rossi, Spurgeon and GusBus. The only return I would like from Toronto is Knies. I'm find with trading Rossi and Gus for Knies and a pick. Maybe we retain on a Marner trade for 1 year so Toronto gets a big piece back. I'm cool with those scenarios. I'm not cool with trading Marner and giving up our core. I'm a fan of the Leafs because there's a lot of similarities between us, but this is a hard no. I think other Leaf fans would agree. I also understand you don't want to move Knies, and thats cool. I just don't think Minnesota will be doing any trades. I also think you have wingers that are more valuable than Knies. Bertuzzi and Domi are 2 big ones. They erased Marchand from that series. Fun to watch

I DON'T WANT KNIES.
More specifically, I don't understand your desire for him.
Were better off just keeping Rossi at that point.
1) Sure, he's bigger. But while similar production wise, he still had lower production rates despite playing with much better players than Rossi has had.
And Rossi has frankly the better hockey IQ that'll take him farther.
2) Knies isn't exactly a more aggressive or more physical player than Rossi either. Despite his size advantage over Rossi. What does it say, when the 5'9" 185 lbs 2nd-line center is more apt and willing to go to the hard areas or score from the crease paint when the 6'3" 216 lbs top-six winger prefers to play from the perimeter?
I just don't see it.
Sure Knies has size. But I prefer Rossi over him 10/10 times.

Let me be clear.
It's a relativistic generalization. Sure, it's not all Leafs fans. A few are pretty level-headed and know what the hell they're talking about. Those fans wisdom is both welcomed and appreciated on here.
@pahal falls into such a category around here.
The problem is the OTHER 96% of Leafs fans that post asinine BS on here give them the reputation they have on site. It's very much deserved, whether you like it or not.
It is what it is. And this one doesn't help that reputation by any means.

Marner
The idea that Minnesota can afford Marner because of the buyouts coming off after next season is both ignorant and asinine at the same time.
1) At least $8M of that $14M will be eaten up by any contract extension that's signed by Faber. And that's the ABSOLUTE minimum it's going to cost them. By all reports it could go as high as $9.5M.
So please explain how Minnesota is expected to afford both players. I'll wait.
2) The only reason Minnesota would trade Rossi is to get a similar age player that's on a similar level but is both bigger and faster. Or a 1C.
Marner is neither. He's a better player, sure. On a Kaprizov level even. But he's also the farthest thing from what Guerin publicy stated he'd be looking for any potential Rossi trade.
So explain why Minnesota does this, again?
3) Minnesota isn't paying full extension prices for Marner. No team is. And they're absolutely not moving a 22 year old 2C, a solid 1B who has vezina caliber skills when rolling, plus their only top-six LW prospect for one year of Marner. Let alone extended.
4) What Minnesota needs is either a 1C, a top-six LW, or a LHD with top pairing upside coming back in ANY Rossi trade.
Again, please explain how Marner addresses those needs?

Then, they sure as f*** aren't ADDING on top of it.

You can forget Boldy. That's simply not happening.
He's literally as good as and already the same caliber player/tier level as Brady Tkachuk with similar PPG and overall production for the last 3 years. Boldy for Tkachuk is a strictly one for one type trade and a lateral move at best.
Boldy gets the edge anyway for having the better contract. Plus he's a more necessary 1RW to Brady who's a 2LW in Minnesota behind Kaprizov.

Ooooh, a whole whopping THREE more points in FIVE MORE GAMES PLAYED. Points aren't the end all be all, and JEE blows Strome away by being a complete 200ft Selke caliber player while Strome isn't.
JEE not only has a higher PPG, but has a higher Net rating than Strome does. Not too mention perceived market value.
JEE:
NR -- +16
GP -- 77
G -- 30
A -- 34
P -- 64
PPG -- .83
TOI -- 20:31
Market Value -- $10.1M
Strome:
NR -- +10
GP -- 82
G -- 27
A -- 40
P -- 67
PPG -- .82
TOI -- 17:57
Market Value -- $7.6M
JEE also wins in terms of face off wins, in both Corsi and Fenwick, and PDO. All while playing against stiffer competition and having less offensive zone starts than Strome.
He's frankly put, a much better player.
But here, don't take my word for it.

There is no going to be. He already is.
Does he need to become more consistent? Yes.
And yes, he struggled and hit a wall down the stretch. But he was a top 3 Calder player this year for 90% of the season, and the only rookie forward with more goals than him this year was Bedard.
Hitting the wall down the stretch isn't unusual for rookie player's, but he absolutely answered whether he was a legitimate top-six center or not this year.
As for being bottom dwellers... Detroit's in the draft lottery. That makes them bottom dwellers. Minnesota was too this year.

1) Gustavsson could get delt, but Guerin is neither going to undersell him nor move him if his price isn't met. He's already publicly stated that he's fine keeping all three on roster next year if it's not.
2) Those prospects might have been more productive to date, but that's not going to last long. That's only due to having more NHL games under their belt so far.
Rossi already has scored more goals in one season then any of them have. He's a 2C at minimum. The others can't even break out of the bottom six on a bottom dwelling Detroit team.

That tips the scales far too much into Montreal's favor then.
1) Brodin is what Ghule could become, and out values him by a ton. At least currently.
2) Anderson is a straight dump. His negative value drags down the trade so much, something needs to be coming back to take his contract.
By taking out the picks, the trade basically becomes Rossi straight up for Anderson. Which defies logic.
