If Marner came with an extension that the Hawks liked, I couldn’t agree to this fast enough. But! We all have seen how Marner acts during contract negotiations.
The last thing the hawks need at the moment is a player who holds off playing until he wrings every last dollar from the org he’s playing for. If it’s up to the hawks to negotiate an extension w/Marner, I say no way

Hawks say no unfortunately. We need quality prospects over quantity. For us to move down, it would take more than a 4th rounder

I don't think the Hawks are interested in saving the Leafs from three years of Jarnkrok. Not without Toronto sweetening the deal with picks

I'd like to see a trade like this. Hawks would have no trouble absorbing Tavares cap hit, and I think Murphy is getting moved at some point this offseason/next year.
If we were to get Tampa's 2025 1st, we would have used Tampa's 1st round picks in 2021 (Nolan Allen - 32nd overall), 2023 (Oliver Moore - 19th overall), this year (20th overall) and 2025 (tbd)!

Perhaps the Hawks might need another warm body to fill out the lineup? If so, a 4th isnt exactly a backbreaking price. I personally don't see the hawks doing this, but I dont hate it, and its certainly possible

Ottawa has shown us how disastrous it is to try to end a rebuild early, and selling off 1st rounders to do it. I would hope the hawks dont make a trade like this

Unrealistic Marner Trade and Options for the next Leafs head coach
I’m not sure I’d be willing to send over those exact picks. But I think the Hawks should be interested in a player like Lily. We don’t have very many RHD prospects in our system at the moment, and I think Lily still has potential as an NHL regular. Something could be worked out.
Maybe the Hawks 3rd rounder and the Sens 3rd this draft? Would be the 62nd and 72nd overall picks

Kampf is a good player and I wouldn’t mind having him back on the Hawks. But everyone knows they have Toronto over-a-barrel with their current cap situation, so it would probably take a sweetener to move him. Regardless of where you’re trying to ship him off to, not just the hawks

I’d say if you make the pick the 2024 Red Wings 1st, I’d do it. Copps contract is a little long but the Hawks would love the 15th overall, I think there’ll be a lot of talent still available at that spot this year. Berggren could be an interesting player as well.
Hawksguy81 is right though. We already have a logjam of upcoming defensive talent at the left side, I have no idea what we’d do with Maata

I’d take a flier out on Robertson, but not for the Blackhawks 2nd. Preferably for a 3rd rd pick, and if it has to be a 2nd then take either LA’s or Vancouver’s 2nd. Not sure I’d do it for a 2nd tho

off-season moves
If the Hawks are confident Levshunov as our number one RHD for the future (I’m hoping they use the pick on Demidov personally), and if Marner came with an acceptable extension in place, I could see us pulling the trigger on this.
But! If Marner doesn’t come with an extension, then no way Jose. I remember how Marner held out for crazy $$$. I don’t want to hawks to be tied up in the same cap situation that the Leafs are in now. And Marner and his antics are one of the main reasons the leafs find themselves in cap hell. I do not want to invite those problems into the hawks org

Steves toughest offseason
I think the hawks accept that deal and get it in writing before Detroit can think twice. The term on copp’s contract is a bit longer than what the hawks are hoping to take on, but for the pick swap to 15th overall I think it’s worth it. I think there will be a lot of talent still on the board at 15, and the hawks are absolutely swimming in 2nd round picks. I think Davidson has already hinted at trying to trade some of those picks away

How he will cost
I know he’s had an off year, but Murphy is still a top 4 defensive dman. Getting that for 2 years @ $2.2 a year (and the hawks needing to retain) will likely cost a 1st round pick. See the McCabe trade with Toronto a couple years ago for comparison

As a hawks fan I’d be happy with this. We need a cost controlled ~60 point forward to play in the top 6 with Bedard. Batherson seems to fit the bill for me. The hawks have an abundance of 2nd rounders too, plus we get to keep our own in this proposed deal. Seems fair to me 👍

I would probably say no as a Hawks fan. Three years is a bit much term to swallow, at least in my opinion. And the Hawks are pretty well stocked on 2nds in the upcoming few drafts.
I think they would try to hold out for a 1st, but honestly this isn’t far off! Wouldn’t be surprised to see this (or something close to it) happen.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Logicalicesports</b></div><div>Check out Bob Ellis' report, stating Davidson is offering this type package</div></div>
Who is this Bob Ellis? I’m guessing he isnt exactly Elliotte Friedman or Darren Dreger.
Laf is a bust, Reichel alone is already a more valuable asset. I can’t find any real sources that are saying anything about them getting traded for each other, and it would be the complete opposite of what Davidson’s been doing so far for the rebuild.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>I doubt the Hawks would agree either as he is a pointless acquisition, but this notion that Petry is an albatross contract is brain dead. He's plenty capable of 20-22 minutes/game at 2RD on a contender. He does need a solid partner, but at his price and age, he shouldn't be expected to carry a pair anyway. If Petry were a UFA this year, he would be easily the best RD in the class. He's at most a million overpaid, but he's no liability like Granlund or Carter. Klingberg, Gudas, Dumba are all inferior players and arguably will be on worse value contracts.</div></div>
Agreed, Petry is far from an albatross. But I don’t believe the hawks are in a place to take advantage of him for the next couple of years.
I didn’t see he was still averaging over 22 mins a night. Impressive
