Saad can only put 12 teams on his no trade list and since he is from Pittsburgh I don't see why the Pens would be on that list.

Ya its just tough because if that Carter extension means the pens don't get to keep Geno when you could possibly bring in someone like an Erod or whoever to play 3c. Hextall not providing a written plan to the owners is weird, no talks/no news with Rakell is disappointing (but I can understand it cause the priority should be on Geno and Letang). Just not very confident in Hextall because the team that you made here seems like a realistic option but I don't know Hextall is capable of that (hopefully I am wrong).

Article came out on the athletic today talking about Hextall is being stingy with Malkin and Letang. Losing one of Geno or Letang will be a real hard pill to swallow. Losing both is not acceptable in my opinion.

With the recent reports I am not too impressed with Hextall at the moment. No one in FA would be able to replace Letang in my opinion.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hullsy09</b></div><div>I am assuming you are referring to the interference penalty he took as the “bonehead play”, but I don’t even think it was a penalty. It initially looks like he caught him up high, but once you see the replay he didn’t and Lindgren just got outmuscled and fell. The great one, 99 also agreed with this statement on TNT and said it was a bad call.
I feel like he could get a bit closer to his crazy start than he did in the second half if he played Center which is his natural position. I also think carter should be moved to wing so it is kind of a win win positional swap.
I don’t hate giving a third line wing spot to a rookie because it allows you to go big game hunting elsewhere.
Thanks!</div></div>
Erod is definitely more productive at center but the 3c role has more defensive responsibilities (especially in the pens org). I do not remember off the top of my head but I feel like at the start of the season when Erod was a top 6 center he was not having as many dzone starts and receiving easier match up assignments as he would have if he was the 3c. I also think Malkin's contract will be a little bit more than 6.5. If that is the case not bringing back Erod is probably how the pens get that extra mil or half a mil. I am curious, have you posted a mock draft?

I agree with a lot of what you have here. I might not be in the majority here but I am not a fan of bringing back Erod. A little because of his bonehead play in the playoffs but mainly due to how bad he fell off after his crazy start. Additionally I rather give a 3rd line wing spot to one of the rookies (Puustinen, Poulin, Nylander). I don't know how much more realistic it might be to pair that 2nd in that QO with Kap or Heinen for JP but either way he makes sense to target. I am in agreement that they should not play the draft safe and should take a chance on a boom or bust type prospect (ideally a center or dman) unless a high end winger falls to them. Really well thought out post

I'd rather keep Kap.
As far as zucker, the problem isn't moving him, it's who replaces him. And you didn't answer that as you only went with Nylander.
Honestly this team probably wouldn't make the playoffs next year.
A middle six of Erod and Nylander on the RW and Comtois and Poulin on the LW isn't going to win you many games.</div></div>
I mean you are going to need young cheap guys with Rust getting a bigger contract. If Malkin and Letang each take a mil less then you can spend 2.5-3 on a third liner. But Poulin and Nylander have been doing well in the AHL gotta have that next wave of talent.

questions
I really like the idea of targeting either one or two of Armia, Goodrow, Coleman for forward, I am not sure Simmonds will be a sully kind of player (speed being the issue). For defense I like Merrill or Forbort. Definitely need another goalie to play 1A to Jarry. I do like Mrazek and Ullmark as the best goal tending options. Mrazek has playoff experience but Ullmark is like Lehner in the sense that he has put good numbers for a truly terrible team. But both goalies had their share of injuries this past season.

New Idea if Malkin is out long term
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dpellz90</b></div><div>Pettersson had the best shot and scoring chance suppression of any Pens d-man this season. Trading him would be a mistake. While there's nothing inherently wrong with wanting to become more physical, you should be looking for players that bring value outside of their physicality, this is not the case with Zadorov.
ZAR even though he's a pending FA won't get too big of a contract. If I would guess, he wouldn't get more than 2.5M. While I found Zohorna as an interesting option, it is very unlikely he can provide the defensive value ZAR does</div></div>
I rather spend ZAR's 2mil on a goalie but that is just my preference. I get his shot suppression was good but he was so brutal at times in front of the net and corners which resulted in goals against, with Zad he should not get beat in front or in the corners nearly as easy as MP.

Trading Aston-Reese is not smart since he's one of the best defensive forwards in the league and is critical for that 4th line</div></div>
I traded MP because he got absolutely bullied in front of the net and in the corners this season and brought Zad because he will bring a big physical presence that Burke will want especially come playoff time. I traded ZAR because I think he will want a bigger contract and I wanted to replace him with a cheaper bigger option in Zohorna who will hopefully add more offense than ZAR.

I do think Detroit says no but it's not about value it's about need. Detroit doesn't need any more wingers at this point so ZAR don't have a lot value from Detroit's pov. DeSmith doesn't really upgrade Detroit's goalie situation and I'm not saying he bad it just Detroit already 2 goalies on the same level.</div></div>
That's fair. My view was you will be getting better value from the picks you receive. The picks you will be giving up is in a draft where scouts had a tougher time getting out to see players. Was not entirely sure of the whole roster layout of the wings.

My thought process was Burke and Hextall are looking for size and one of the fears I have is that POJ might get pushed around in a similar way to MP. With Zad the pens will have a dude that is definitely not afraid inflict damage with big hits. Zad I think offers balance throughout the lineup. Tanev, Wood and Goodrow can all throw their weight around but there is no one on the back end that can really command that physical presence.

All you're giving up is 2 4th round picks in a draft of unknowns. The wings get a decent cheap back up that can be easily flipped at the deadline for a 3rd or fourth and the same goes for ZAR. The picks you get back will be in a draft were scouting can actually go out and scout players.
