The clear difference is that Montreal is coming to the end of a rebuild with an amazing young core of players. And Calgary is Calgary.

Brandt Clarke is the immediate replacement for Spence in this situation. They can just sign another non-permanent decent 2nd or 3rd pair defenceman to get them to the deadline if they need to. I also think that there's no way Brannstrom is in this deal, as the Kings have no use for him. The top pair could be Anderson and Doughty, and the second could be Chychrun and the mid-tier free agent. With the third pair being Gavrikov and Clarke. And Englund 7th D.

100%. But this is just an outline and Montreal has a plethora of assets that they could throw at Calgary. And if they were willing to also take on Anderson's contract they could get even more. And just maybe if they're willing to get creative, there could be a 2024 first-round pick swap if Montreals guy isn't there at number 5.

Why, they get to start a rebuild. And I HIGHLY doubt Andersson wants to be there for it. They can finally bottom out and they have their lottery pick next year to maybe select James Hagens.

MCGROARTY TO MTL
The Canadiens get one of the best NHL-affiliated prospects for only a first. The first would have probably been used to select someone of a similar caliber. This way, they get a guy who is more developed and ready to play in the NHL full-time. The Flames get their first back so they can fully initiate a rebuild. The Jets get an elite right-handed defenseman.

Markstrom to LA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>doaftheloaf</b></div><div>I'm sure they do, but neither of those things are in the offer. Spence will be a bottom pair dman and Kaliyev will bounce around the league, because he's basically Daniel Sprong. If the Kings were actually offering those things in this deal, I'd see Brandt Clarke and Adrian Kempe in the deal, not a couple guys who routinely get scratched.</div></div>
Maybe if you actually watched them play instead of looking at their hockeydb and calling it a day you'd see the potential. Kaliyev has an elite NHL shot and will thrive somewhere away from the Kings system. Yes, he got scratched a lot this year, but that is because he doesn't fit the Kings system and is not a great depth piece. If he is given proper minutes on a bad team (Calgary) he will absolutely thrive due to his natural offensive instincts. I see him eventually as a solid offensively gifted 2nd liner. He can play the powerplay as he has a crazy shot. He's not going to wow you defensively, but over the course of the season we've seen it improve, he's also only 22 years old and has plenty of time to develop the defensive side of his game. Jordan Spence is NOT a guy who gets routinely scratched, he also just doesn't fit the Kings as they do not want to play Doughty, Clarke, and Spence all together which is why Clarke spent most of the year with the Reign. Spence is an explosive offensive guy with crazy edges, he reminds me a lot of a guy like Quinn Hughes with a lower ceiling. Spence will clearly not stay as a bottom pair dman for his career. The dudes 23 years old and this is only his first full NHL season, I see him as a guy who is probably a 2nd pair guy who will also quarterback the #1 powerplay. He isn't elite defensively but he can for sure hold his own. Also why in gods green earth would Kempe be in this deal. Makes 0 sense. Trading your #1 shooter who is also elite defensively on an insane contract is just dumb.

Markstrom to LA
I really like this for both sides but the pick swap seems slightly unnecessary. Calgary gets a young natural goal scorer in Kaliyev who clearly needs a change of scenery, along with an excellent young offensive defenceman. It seems like it's only a matter of time before Markstrom gets traded, and I honestly doubt Mangiapane would want to sign an extension to stay in Calgary. The retention is great because the Mangiapane retention will only be for this season and the Markstrom retention will only be for 2 seasons and Calgary will clearly not be needing lots of cap space as they will not be competitive by then. I'm not sure if Calgary would be willing to part ways with Kuzmenko, but he would make a lot more sense for LA instead of Mangiapane as he is a right shot and the only right shot forward they have under contract currently is Alex Lafferriere.

Aves get a goalie
It won't let me add Valeri Nichushkin, so just use your imagination. The Florida Panthers acquire Valeri Nichushkin. When playing he can be a huge difference maker on the ice offensively. The Colorado Avalanche acquire their long-term starter in Spencer Knight, a young goalie with a track record of being a solid option in goal. They also acquire Evan Rodrigues, a solid forward who the Avalanche are very familiar with.

Unrealistic NECAS to Boston
Unrealistic but fun. Carolina gets their elite starter in Ullmark, a bonified second line center to replace Necas in Coyle, and a young skilled offensively minded right defenseman to replace Tony Deangelo. The Bruins get the first line center in Necas they have been looking for, while also getting a solid young goalie in Kochetkov who has the potential to keep the goalie tandem in Boston alive. Los Angeles gets their cheap starting goalie they are looking for, while clearing space for Brandt Clarke to breakout next year in Spence's spot.

MARNER TO CALIFORNIA
I think that one of either Jordan Spence or Brandt Clarke are going to be moved this offseason. This is because all season the coaching staff has refused to play Doughty, Spence, and Clarke all together in the same game because they are all right shot puck-moving defensemen. Also interestingly the Kings spent most of the season with 2 right shot forwards. Trevor Lewis, and Alex Laferriere. This screwed up the powerplay early on, up until Viktor Arvidsson came back from surgery. Now all signs lead to Arvidsson walking in free agency. Could Marner be the elite right-shot forward the Kings are looking for?

Karlsson Back to Ottawa
Karlsson is back in Ottawa. The Senators acquired the leader they have been looking for in Erik Karlsson. They also add young defenseman, Pierre-Oliver Joseph, notably he is Mathieu Joseph's brother. The Penguins add Jakob Chychrun who brings both skill and youth to the blueline which is what the Penguins are looking for. They also get Erik Brännström, a young offensive defenseman who has never figured it out at the NHL level. He is the exact type of guy Kyle Dubas would target in a trade.

Toronto gets grit and defensive upgrade Philadelphia gets cornerstone
Yeah, it was just a somewhat skeleton of a potential trade. I just thought of this because Toronto gets exactly what they need: a new defenseman to jumpstart their new and improved defensive core, a solid third-line center to take kampfs spot and move him to the 4th line, an adequate replacement for Nylander on the second line right-wing. The main reason for this trade is to add toughness to the core 4 because the core 4 has never had that before. They also get solid toughness from Laughton, and a big defenceman in Sanheim.
