Why not just trade Nylander/Robertson for the package your trading his Carolina return for?

Current Roster and Space
Personally would look at moving Kerfoot over Engvall. Would like to see Engvall play alongside someone who can better dish him the puck like ROR. He currently has 12 goals despite playing mainly with David Kampf, who I love but is not an offensive producer.

I don't see Dubas trading Timmins he has already said the trade to acquire Timmins was for long term gain. I think there is good potential there and once Holl is off the books Timmins will be resigned for a good price and be a main stay on the Leaf's D (again as you guys said pending injury)

Trade Deadline Preview
Schenn is playing decent in Vancouver so may need more then the third.
Konecny seems more like an off season type trade then a deadline deal. Bunting is doing well on the top line with Matthews and Nylander.
I would think one of Domi or Motte would be alright but not both.
Team is playing well so likely not looking to make a ton of moves and throw off chemistry. I would probably look at something like this.
Bunts-Matthews-Nylander (playing well)
Jarny-Tavares-Marner (Playing well)
Domi/Motte-Kampf-engvall/kerfoot (whichever is kept and traded for) (Need that one play driver on the line)
ZAR-Holmberg-Malgin (Play well together in a shutdown role)
Rielly-Lilly (Lilly proving to be a top 4 D man so far)
Sandin-Brodie (Brodie steadies Sandin's game)
Gio-Schenn (Shutdown pairing for tough minutes)
I would also prefer giving Knies a look over Domi or Motte personally and wouldn't think he would be top 6 ready right away.

Their 4th line is in need of work for sure.
I would lover to get Kuzmenko and sign Knies.
Bunting-Matthews-Nylander
Kuzmenko-Tavares-Marner
Knies-Holmberg/Kampf-Robertson/Kerfoot
ZAR-Holmberg/Kampf-Engvall/Kerfoot
A guy like Hathaway would be nice also for a 4th line.</div></div>
I do want to see what Knies brings but at the same time he is still only 20 with no NHL experience so would be nice to see them get someone with a bit more experience, in case he just is not ready for the NHL especially playoff hockey.

Lines Due To Injuries
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kster34</b></div><div>Between injuries and line shifting, I think Keefe just looking to see what options he has.
Post TDL, I think lines should be as follows:
Bunting, Matthews, Nylander - looking good
Jarnkrok, JR, Marner - looked good b4 injury, & really doesn’t matter who plays LW given How good Marner (& JT) are
Kerf, 3C, Engvall - need to make trade, high acquisition cost, for impact 3C (O’Reilly, Horvat, Toews); we need another matchup line with some scoring threat
ZAR, Kampf, 4W- need to make trade, low acquisition cost, for heavy 4th line winger (Hathaway, McCaron); matchup forecheck cycle line</div></div>
I agree with this. I just also like the idea that ZAR could potentially be put up when needed in a defensive aspect. Which you dont get out of Robertson, Engvall, Kerfoot

Not sure you have been watching Fraser Minten he has 22 points in 18 games and plays a good defensive game, also from Vancouver. Maybe not the best prospect out there but definitely high on some lists and will only get better as he is only 18.

It was mostly Robertson but in the third period when it was still 3-0 ZAR was moved up with Marner/Tavares. I am guessing for more of a defensive look to help secure the win. But it actually looked good for the short time it lasted. Could be worth doing on defensive zone draws for that line then once it hits the offensive zone doing a ZAR for Robertson line change, when able obviously..

Bully Hockey
Why does everyone put toughness, bully, grit in the same sentence as Max Domi? He is a scoring forward, sure he has some toughness and grit but he is no Tie Domi and not really a game changer in terms of his physical side. The other guys would be nice to have though.

Though Jenner is pegged as a shutdown guy he also has 300 points in 600 games and one 30 goal season. He does have the ability to score goals and with the right line mates he could be really good for the leaf's. I do not belief the Blue Jackets would accept the offer though.

Not realistic

We'll take a 3rd. There's no need to clog up the roster with rental Engvall. Red Wings aren't obligated to do favours for the Leafs.
I don't know why Leafs fans keep offering the same garbage for Vatrano. Verbeek isn't trading a player he just signed in UFA. Otherwise he'll not be able to sign any future UFA's.</div></div>
Oh I thought I read on an article that he was healthy scratched but I just looked and ya he has played every game. Also I never said Detroit needs to do favor's I thought Suter was healthy scratch so it was for both to have fresh starts. Engvall to hopefully find his game and Suter to play (which obviously I see now that he is)
There was literally just a 32 thoughts on the leaf's interest in Vatrano and the Ducks looking to move people depending on if the money and return works for them which my offer may very well not.

Changes to Round out the roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>Not necessarily, they probably don't want to trade Horvat for futures, so getting an elite player like Nylander is probably the best they can do. You might have issue with downgrading Garland to Engvall, but it seems like no one wants Garland's contract, Engvall can fill a 3rd line and PK role. Holl can do what Schenn can, sure he's getting paid 1.1m more but overall the trade is pretty cap neutral.
So, Vancouver losses trade value here for sure but whether it's a horrible deal for them really depends on what they have been offered for Garland and what they will get offered for Horvat. The way Horvat is playing, they can probably get a good futures package, that gives them a chance at getting at least 2 high end talent, but that's probably not what they would prefer.</div></div>
Schenn had 12 hits in the game against the Leaf's on Saturday and has the most in the league currently. Holl has 7 all year so far.... They are two completely different players even though Holl should be able to throw hits he just doesn't. As a leaf's fan I would love to have Schenn back but Holl and Schenn can not do the same thing.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NoVaSpartan</b></div><div>I see no need for the Caps to make this trade given their current spot. Engvall is something like 7 years younger and Washington seems to be sliding a bit. They may be playing better right now, this trade could help in the future as well. Not saying its a straight up perfect trade but could be a good starting point.
