tight squeeze and some tough decisions
Don’t know if we’ll be able to get all these moves done, but these are the lines man! Hoping the next coach takes a peak. Can’t really believe that we’ve almost never given chytil or kakko any run with panarin, let alone both. Zib is gonna do his thing with anyone and would hopefully help jumpstart Laf. And Kreider and Trocheck had looked really nice together for that brief stint, and I think they’re probably the optimal 5v5 pair for one another. Really gonna be sad to see Mikkola go, was a luxury to have on the 3rd pair, but I think Jones can provide a similar transition game, with some more offense though maybe a little less defense once he gets going. One thing I would like is for them to get a couple more years on Miller, but if its to bring back the sank show, I can’t complain too much. Nicely done.

I mean you could definitely want more for Bertuzzi and that's fine, though it definitely would not cost assets to move him lol. He's an RFA making less than 900k. There's absolutely zero incentive to add picks to move a guy like that when you could just waive him for nothing if you truly didn't want him and had no value. The Avs are also not winning another cup this year, no West team has a legitimate chance unless the East teams all destroy each other and I mean literally injure enough players for the West to have a chance.

Na the cap works fine with accrual. Idk what the ask would be for Bert, but you could always resign him after the season if you wanted to, at least getting something here for a couple months of his services.

I’m curious how many teams are in your league? Draisaitl, Kaprizov, Hedman, and Josi are all ranked in the top 10 on almost all Espn fantasy formats.

How Far
Interesting team. Pretty good forward depth with some good high end talent. Probably would also have the best 4th line in the league. Defense is decent, but I don't know if they would be able to make up some of the shortcomings of the goaltending. I'd say probably 1st round unless you could trade for a better goalie option at the deadline.

Standings Predictions with Points and Explanations
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gretzkyghosts</b></div><div>FrannyMan1
Let me see if I can understand this.
The Devils will improve to 95 pts from 63 and make the playoffs by adding G Vitek Vanecek, F Ondrej Palat, D John Marino, D Brendan Smith, D Simon Nemec?
The Devils will <strong>NEVER</strong> make the play offs with Ruff as the Head Coach.
EDIT:
Did you type your Sabre comments using invisible ink, because I cannot read them.
BTW G Eric Comrie, D Ilya Lyubushkin, LW Peterka, RW Quinn will improve the Sabres more than the players above will improve the Devils.</div></div>
Yeh it looks like the Sabres comments didn't copy over correctly I'll have to add them in. But to your point I think the Sabres have done very little to improve this offseason. I like their team and where it is headed but if your only real moves are promoting 2 young prospects (albeit good ones) in Quinn and Power, I don't really see where you improve relative to the rest of the division that has other teams in the middle with major improvements. Lyubushkin is a 7th defenseman on most teams other than I guess the Coyotes,Leafs and Sabres( Not teams known for their great defenses) and Comrie is a backup goalie. I'm sure they'll be able to provide something of value, but if you are banking on them to get you over the hump then maybe you guys are in more trouble than I thought. I think they'll be good in a few years, but it'll probably be another year at the bottom of the division. As for the Devils, I think the middle of the metro is a lot more open. Caps and Pens look like they'll be worse. I'll take my chances on the Islanders missing the playoffs again, being that all they did over the offseason was get rid of the best coach in the league after missing last year. Lets not even mention the Flyers, and the Jackets are a huge question mark. I think having actual goaltending this year even if its average will make a huge difference, and they have a tandem that could potentially provide that. Having both Hughes and Hamilton healthy will also go a huge way. Having your best forward and defenseman each miss a quarter of the season is a big deal. No offense to the sabres guys that missed time but they are not equivalent. The Palat signing and Marino trade are decent, obviously not the things that make or break this season for them though much more impactful than Comrie and Lyubushkin. The health and goalie concerns will be the devils biggest obstacles and if they can get over those, I like their chances.
I'd also like to mention that I am not a fan of either the Devils or Sabres, so this is my unbiased view of the situation.

Thread:
Calgary Flames signed MacKenzie Weegar (8 Years / $6,250,000 AAV)
The people on here still suggesting that Calgary didn't win this trade are absolutely insane. Without any of the other pieces involved, even if it was Hubs for Tkachuk straight up the flames still win this trade. Hubs has been arguably the best winger in the league over the past 3 years, amongst the likes of Marner, Panarin, Ovechkin, Kane, Marchand and Rantanen. Even with the emergence of Kaprizov, and hopefully a healthy Kucherov you can still argue him being one of if not the best wingers in the league. Throw in Weegar and a 1st, on top of the context of Tkachuk publicly wanting out and its not even close. This is a complete fleece of a trade in favor of calgary. Add on the 2 signing for solid aavs and it gets even better. I think its very likely that the Flames improve off of last season, and the Panthers take a massive step back. Seriously, with the injuries and the pieces they've lost the Panthers are one Ekblad knee injury (and it seems almost like a guarantee to happen again at this point) from being a bubble playoff team.

lines
This really is the dream lineup for us. If they decide not to keep Othman on the NHL squad because he can't be demoted to the AHL, then I think we should give that spot to Cuylle. If they dont think either is ready than either Blais or Goodrow moves up and Reaves/Hunt takes their spot on the 4th. Ideally I'd want one of the kids in that spot but even if neither makes it out of camp I won't be too annoyed as long as Laffy is on the 1st line and Kakko or Kravstov takes that 2nd RW spot. As long as those spots are held down by the kids instead of guys like Blais, Hunt or Goodrow I'll be content.

Questionable line deployments and people missing from the lineup. Johnny Gaudreau, JT Miller, Chris Kreider would all make it over guys like Rust, Zegras and Oshie (even with all of his international success). Defense is missing Mcavoy who would easily slot in as your 2nd best defenseman right behind Fox. I also think Demko makes the team and probably is the starter over all of these guys. Who he kicks out of the 3 listed is tough cause they've all been relatively bad/mediocre recently.

Miller to TOR
Rangers offered them Lundkvist, Chytil and a 1st last trade deadline and they declined. I think both of those players are more valauable than Robertson and Sandin with the Sandin vs Lundkvist being a little more arguable as to whos more valuable. It is for one less playoff run though, so Miller coming back for one less run is also less valuable. Depending on how far off the rangers deal was from the canucks pov it could be close. I think the Canucks would be a lot more interested if you switched out either knies for robertson or niemola for sandin or both and at that point might not even need to include the 1st.

On paper its really not that bad
Like I said, it is certainly contingent on the health of ellis and couterier. Being thats its the nhl, and that its the offseason I’d say that even the guess of some people in the organization is as good as yours or mine as to how ellis is doing. You could probably put anyone in that backup goalie spot for this thought experiment, I don’t think it really makes much of a difference being that he has no nhl experience, sure hes got some potential but if hart would lose the number 1 role to him than theres probably no chance of anything but an 8th place finish for them anyways. The taxi squad thing might as well be you placing them in the ahl, it would have zero impact on the cap either way. Coaching will certainly have an impact, but can’t imagine that you could get much worse from what its been.

Lol so we give you your new starting goalie and KK for the pleasure of taking on whats essentially a 5 million dollar cap dump for you and a guy who would be at best our 5th best defenseman, though maybe even lower than that, and we get to throw picks your way too? O but you did throw in a backup ahl goalie so I guess its all square.

Risky Center Signing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jfstompers</b></div><div>Is copp being resigned there pretty much guaranteed at this point?</div></div>
I think they prefer Copp over Strome, though I think they are also going to be cautious with him on term and aav. I think thats probably their option A at this point. After that I'm not too sure what they would look to do, whether it would be to try out Chytil at 2c, maybe go for Strome if Copp is too expensive or try and get someone in a trade or free agency. Think its going to come down to AAV on whatever decision because although they could resign Copp it will definitely make the next few years tight, especially if Laffy, Miller and Chytil continue to get better, they'll all be up for extensions after next year.

Risky Center Signing
Coming from a Rangers Fan perspective, I think Strome can work as a 2c with a scoring winger and defensively responsible winger. Thats how he's worked best in NY. I think there were enough flashes without Panarin to show he can work fine enough with others, but I think you'd still need an elite level winger to get the most out of him. Very solid passer, and can get somewhat streaky with scoring, though the stretches where he can't seem to hit the side of a barn seem like forever. Lot to be desired still in the face-off department and defensively, but I think he's a low-mid level 2c. I'd be cautious though about giving him more than 5 million, even though I think he'll get it on the open market. I'm also not too familiar with the wings center prospects but if theres someone who could push him down to the 3rd line within the next couple of years that contract probably won't age very well.

22-23 Rangers
Idk, I think that Krav could still potentially fetch a 2nd and I think the amount that you'd have to give to dump Nemeth has been overstated on this site. I think you could get out of the contract for maybe a 4th or a 5th to a team near the cap floor. I don't know if Hajek has any value, but if he could get anything by adding him in a package I'm all in. At least thats how I got to a 3rd and if we needed to throw in some other peripheral piece to get that done I'd be down. You are right though, with it being such an early 3rd rounder its probably much more difficult for it to go through but I'd do this with basically any team just using Arizona as an example. Also would have to take into consideration Nemeth's no trade list.

Rangers Next Year
Yeh I think the Trouba trade is a little bit of wishful thinking on my part, both that the Rangers would get rid of him in the first place and that we could get that kind of return for him. I do think we should get rid of him to free up the cap and the young guys on defense. Do I think that the Rangers would do it is another story. As far as the return, I think you could probably get one of the cap-floor teams to consider picking him up. I'm not sure what the return would be or maybe he could even be part of the Chychrun trade and maybe you take out the 3rd and Nemeth and get rid of Nemeth some other way. More of a post talking about what I wish they would do, as opposed to what I think they will actually end up doing.
