With the way you have bought out Datsyuk, does that still count against the cap?

Wpg pulls a Brian Burke for 2 and 3
I would be ecstatic if the Jets could swing those deals but I fear in both cases it would take more. Jets have loads of prospects and picks to work with so anything is possible. I also wouldn't want both Hutch and Comrie moved. One needs to be the safety net behind Hellebuyck. Phillips is still a couple years out and Pavelec would need to accept a pay cut to stay on as a back-up.

Long term Commitments - yr 2
I would love to see both to sign for less than 6M but I think if they do, the term would drop to 5-6 years. Most of those 4-5 year contracts I threw out there should also more logically been 2 year bridge deals to see who earns the minutes. Jets have lots of competition for roster spots now so we will likely see a slew of bridge deals.

The thinking on that was that it was a swap of bad contracts (Pavelec and Wideman) into areas where both teams have need. I don't think Thorbs contract is a bad one, he just is losing his ice time to a large crop of prospects the Jets have been harvesting. Stuart was pushing my luck. I was still trying to trade him before other teams realized he wasn't as good as he once was. I think he still carries positive name recognition in the league. Might have to be three separate trades but the Jets usually remain loyal to their old warriors.

Why not? Fills left side which is horrendous. Still getting a top selection. I dont mind it.</i></div></div>
If the Jets wanted to fill the left side, why wouldn't they just draft Laine in the first place who is much more NHL ready than Tkachuk? IMO the left side would be a point of strength for the Jets with Ehlers, Laine, Connor, Perreault and Lowry. For the $5M they would pay Edler, they could sign a younger free agent.

Counter for scarbrows Oilers jets deal
Although the concept is win-win, I would think this trade would benefit the Oilers more than Jets. If the Oilers tossed in one of their many LHD (Nurse or Reinhart most likely) this would be a more palatable trade. Jets really like the idea on having an NHL ready, top 6 forward on ECL for three years and restricted for seven. Cheveldayoff has implied that the offer would have to truly impressive.

Trade for 4th
I agree that it might be too much for fourth overall. The third pick might be a longshot as I think Columbus is pretty happy with moving up to that pick. There are three quality LHD in the draft and Jets could certainly use one of them. If any of Chychrun, Juolevi or Sergachev fall out of the top 10, Jets may want to bundle 22 and 36 to move up.

I would also point out that the Myers trade was more about Winnipeg wanting to be rid of Kane as it was about acquiring Myers. We still have Lemieux, Armia, Roslovic and Stafford to remind us of Evander.

I love that you needed to add a second rounder to even out the Faulk trade.
With some solid coaching, this team could avoid the draft lottery next year.

Revised based on great feedback
Perreault played most of last year on LW. He played mainly centre in his first year. If Laine plays RW then Perreault would likely stay on the wing. If Laine is lined up as a LW, I would think that the Jets would move him back to centre.
As for Lowry, I too am a big fan. He is definitely capable of moving up or down the roster as required. If the roster above was tried, and Connor wasn't ready for the NHL, Jets could slot Lowry, Dano or Burmi onto the third line. I really like the Lowry, Copp, Armia line. Big, bang and can score all three.

With Trouba, the hidden value is meanness (truculence in Toronto terms). Scott Stevens never lit up the scoreboard but other teams hated playing against him. Trouba is 6'3" and battles hard. PK minutes and top line matchups. Finishes his checks. His game is more akin to Vlasic's in SJS than Reilly. Burns and Byfuglien get all the headlines but Vlasic and Trouba do much of the heavy lifting. Too many armchair gms base valuation on points scored only. Great for fantasy hockey but not when building a team. If games were won on paper, the Oilers would be pacific division champions.

Connor and Laine are both trigger men. I'm not sure they will be placed on the same line (at least not as rookies). Merrill would be an intriguing pick up for LHD.

Stamkos comes to the Peg
I think this is the first time I've seen a Winnipeg post involving Stamkos. Jets fans have managed to resist the temptation to do this. It does look fantastic but I agree with Palhal that Stammer is likely to stay in the east. Funny thing is that if he wants to play for a cup contender, this line-up doesn't look too far off. As the Pavelec, Stafford, Enstrom and Thorburn contracts come due, use the money to pay players coming off ELCs.

Coyotes
Jets already have three picks in the first 40 and the difference between Matthews and Perlini is greater than a five spot jump in the draft. I think the Jets would be willing to hear the Coyotes out but I would think Domi or Strome would need to be components of the package coming back.

You are probably right. Be interesting to see if the jets sent Pavelec to the Moose if anyone would pick him up off waivers. Thorbs and Stuart I would think would have value to some teams but with the depth of the Jets prospect pool, there shouldn't be space for them in the lineup in Winnipeg. Management has been devoutly committed to these players getting regular shifts in spite of the results. Popular in the dressing room.

Nice looking team. You kept the three players I fear the Jets will remain loyal to in spite of the need to give those spots to deserving prospects; Pavelec, Thorburn and Stuart. I guess that you have to respect their commitment to players who commit to them. Over seven million in salaries that can be replaced by three million and not hurt the team. I would have also kept Lowry.

Two simple moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div><i>The Calgary trade makes some sense for both teams even though Pavelec really doesnt help them any more then Hiller or Ramo did. I think they want to get an established starter if they're looking to trade for a goalie. Wideman also would only be getting 5-6 line minutes, which would be taking away from Stuart/Chiarot and potentially Morrisey as a result. Sure the trade CAN work but does it really help either team? Not really IMO.
The Chi trade is IMO, a bit much to give up. Shaw is good but he's also had the opportunity to play with some pretty darn good players these past couple years. If he plays 3rd line minutes with less talented players, i think its fair to say he won't be putting up 3.75M type numbers. The 32nd overall pick this year and a former 1st rounder who still is a decent player is a bit of an over payment i think. But hey Shaw is a playoff style guy that every team wants so sometimes you gotta overpay.</i></div></div>
Do you think Stafford and Connor is a major step back from Teravainen and Fleishmann? I like the idea of adding a guy that puts up 30-40 points playing 14 minutes a night. Burmi put up 21 points playing over 16 minutes a game.

2016-17 Jets
Don't think Kyle Connor is ready? I'd prefer to see Armia getting icetime over Thorburn and Peluso. If Jets run with Hellybuyck and Pavelec, they will have to trade Hutchinson as he will not clear waivers and they would not want to lose him without return. I have a distinct preference to try to move Pavelec's contract.
