Appleton doesn't really make sense for Buffalo. Ehlers does though.

Hard pass from Buffalo. Rosen is worth way more than Laughton. Negative impact players don't fetch 1st round prospects having solid AHL seasons.

That's a massive overpay for Laughton. Sabres should say absolutely not.

I'd love that trade. Blues fans on here will likely shoot you down hard but it's a decent offer for sure.

Two Big Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Away</b></div><div>I don’t think the blues can afford to do that given there defensive situation right now. But if they were. This is a decent offer, but they’d probably want a Nemec, Jirenek, Reinbacher back
Now Faulk? He’s probably available</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>He's not available, man.... but I was tempted to agree just to freak out Leafs fans. :sleepy</div></div>
I figure he isn't available but if they wanna lean into some youth then you never know. Jokiharju, and Yakemchuck, to replace him going forward plus adding in Rosen and a 2? It's a good offer...
No interest in Faulk though... Need someone more responsible for with Byram.

Moving Up Draft Options
Buffalo could consider that, but I think using the value of trading back to get a ready now asset makes more sense. Buchnevich, Schenn, or Parayko come to mind if the Blues wanna do a little youth reset here.

You don't think they'd eat a couple million for a 2RD under team control? They have so many quality prospects that the cap won't be an issue.

While the Buffalo idea is good in principle, I can't see them doing that for Barron. Value isn't there. They're more likely to move the pick all together for a proven entity.

LOL, Lindy would have his Vaklav Varada on his new team.
If offered, Lindy would want to add Tanner if this was all that was needed to aquire him.</div></div>
That's so disrespectful to Varada lol

Overpay for Laughton because we aren't being paid to take him. Cates or Couturier I'd be willing to work on.

Right which is that he could be available for a fair price if extension talks don't pick up, which this is more than fair.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>You disagree that a player openly being offered around and a player a team has no intention of trading are different? Well, okay, but that sort of stance from a bidding team ain't gonna fetch Buch.
And exactly no one is assuming the plan is to re-sign Buch. Army has made that clear repeatedly and publicly.</div></div>
No I disagree that it should be assumed the player even wants to re-sign. Or that the team wants to re-sign him.
At this point that offer is as competitive as you're gonna get for him. A 2LD(upside) plus a mid-1st round prospect coming off a solid AHL year and an unprotected 1st in the upcoming draft is a haul.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Being discussable and on the block are two very different animals. And what might occur later is irrelevant today. Today, he's not available, but Army is willing to listen because it's the smart thing to do. Doesn't make him available today. If Buch stays past the draft, it's a pretty safe bet he is in STL when the season starts provided no one says magic words.</div></div>
I disagree whole heartedly with this sentiment for all of the reasons I previously stated.

You're assuming the plan is to re-sign him and that they agree to terms including NTC/NMC etc.
Also from his end that he wants to stay with the team.
Any pending UFA is always discussable as being available because either side might see it as beneficial to get out while there's value on the table.

I just mean relative to the Cap. That's a big percentage to be allocated to 1 position that isn't a Franchise altering 1C.

Wacky idea
If your Marner extension is 12M x 8 you're now paying him 13M, 15M, 15M for the first three years when you add the retention on Skinner. Plus the payment of Samuelsson and two 1sts... I think that's gonna hamstring you way too much financially
