I don't see how Edmonton owes us a favor. If that were the case then I guess the Rangers owe the Canadians a ton for the McDonagh/Gomez trade. There's no such thing in business like this multi million dollar empire. You win some and you lose some. I don't see how the Rangers lost anything for Talbot. I myself was hoping for a little more for him and the fact that Florida was willing to give up Jimmy Hayes for him says we could have done better. However, the trade wasn't a complete loss. The Rangers got 3 draft picks for Talbot and replenished the farm system for a college free agent no one knew about.
As far as your lineup goes why Stalberg? He is just an insurance policy in case Lindberg doesn't work out. He signed a one way SPC so he can't be sent down without clearing waivers. It's the Rangers lineup or another team for Lindberg as he will surely get claimed on waivers. Fast also deserves a better spot on the lineup. He was one of the best Rangers in the playoffs once given a top six spot. He is a righty shot too which is a bit of a problem for the Rangers. This brings me to the point on the trade you proposed with Edmonton. They might just be willing to take a guy like Boyle but if it was Yakapov we wanted I'm sure the Rangers woud either have to throw in a pick or prospect or retain some of Boyle's salary. Yakapov is a right haned shot so I think he would be a nice addition. I just doubt it would be that easy. If they got Yakapov I may try to do this with the linup
Nash-Stepan-Yakapov
Kreider-Brassard-Zuccarello(Fast)
Etem-Hayes-Fast(Zuccarello)
Lindberg-Moore-Miller(Megna)
Stalberg is 13th forward if there is enough money to carry 13 forwards. IDK????
Hopefully the Rangers can get rid of Glass. His $1.45 mil is too much to be a 13th forward and he's holding up a spot that can be had by a younger kid. Zuccarello hasn't played since that horrific injury and I'm not sure he will be himself again. For the time being we will say that he's fine but he played his best hockey against lesser competition when used on the 3rd line. If he were to play against 3rd pair defenseman he may give the Rangers that 3 line depth they had in 13/14. They didn't seem to get that kind of possession from all 4 lines last season. That will need to be repaired if they want a return trip to the finals this season. They also need more right handed shots up front. The reason the PP never works is there's no righty on the left side most of the time. Stepan plays well there when he lines up at LW on the PP but that happens rarely. Having Yakapov, Fast, and Megna on the right wings would give the Rangers a more balanced attack at even strenght and on the PP.

Optimism at its finest
I like your optimism but this is a team built to win now. It's not an overly old roster and theirs a lot of young guys here that have played well together for years now. Why mix that all up by trading away all the big peices? Wheeler isn't going to replace Nashs' 40 goals. I don't think he has much playoff experience since the Jets just played their first 4 games since moving to Winnipeg. We don't know that Wheeler would be any better than Nash in the Playoffs. I also think that Nash will break through this time around in the playoffs. He finally looked like he was a little more comfortable playing and he went to the net more in the TB series.
There's no way any team is taking Dan Boyle and giving up 2 mid round draft picks for him. It would be nice but he's at least a right handed shot and a puck moving defenseman. He's the best puck moving Dman the Rangers have. Hejda is a lumbering left handed defensive defenseman and is 37 himself. So why not just keep Boyle if Hejda is the only guy the Rangers add. Having 3 lefties and 3 righties on the back end is important. A defenseman on his off side is at a disadvantage in the defensive zone. He has to clear the puck on the backhand and in the offensive zone it takes him longer to get a shot off having to go from his backhand to his forehand. Klein is signed cheaply for the foreseable future so unless he has an unreal season this year and his value is really high, why trade him? You're essentially getting rid of Boyle ($4.5) and Klein ($2.9) for Hejda ($1.8) and Franson ($4.3). All you are doing is changing the right side with less effective defenseman to clear a couple bucks.
Up front Wheeler is a waste of money. He's a righty and can score but he's not fast enough on his feet for the Rangers. As a centerman he might be ok but as a winger he would just hold everyone up. Nash is a better option. The Rangers could use a righty winger for the top 6 but as the roster stands now, Jesper Fast is going to be in the top 6 somewhere. He played real well when given the chance in the playoffs.
I think the lineup depends on how well Zuccarello plays when camp finally begins. Will he shy away from contact or not stop in front of the net.
My roster looks like this.
Nash-Stepan-Miller(Zuc) McDonagh/Girardi
Kreider-Brassard-Fast Staal/Klein
Etem-Hayes-Zuc(Miller) Yandle/Boyle
Lindberg-Moore-Megna
Tanner Glass is either waived or is the 13th forward. I don't think the Rangers can afford to carry Glass as a 13th forward. I think he's getting waived and claimed or demoted to the AHL unless he requests a trade which would be fine. I think Stalberg was signed as an insurance policy incase Zuccarello wasn't ok to play of if Lindberg wasn't ready. Lindberg will need to clear waivers now that he signed a 1-way SPC. The Rangers also have Gibbons as a 4th line player.
One other thing, why would you want Antoin Rousell and for the 3rd line? On the Rangers he's a decent 4th line player but why trade to acquire him unless it's a salary dump. If there were to be a salary dump, the player I'd look to trade is Marc Staal. He's paid more than the top D on the same side and for way too long. He isn't paid too much to scare other teams from him and on most teams he's a top pairing guy off the bat.
