Lmao giving JB credit for one of the worst eras in canuck history.
Alvin and Rutherford added the correct staff to play a certain style and targeted players that they felt could fit certain areas of need.

He's coming off his worst statistical season and was battling injuries. This allows him to cash in on his previous reputation for a year and play with the Norris winner. This would allow him to rebuild his value and cash in next offseason.

Or maybe Deangelo who takes stupid penalty after stupid penalty and can't actually defend.
Who is going to man their first PP or provide some stability past next season?
You think a really good team like Carolina would Want to sustain that.

A pro that had a very good season, who in a pinch can play up and down your lineup. Reliable penalty killer and comes in at 1.6 million. Definitely value in that.

Was there not a lot of changes or gambles from last offseason to the midpoint of the season this year?
Miller resigned to a long term extension, Betting that Boeser could bounce back under Tocchet, Betting that Hoglander could put it together and become a linemate for Pete, Soucy, Ian Cole, Blueger, Lafferty trade, Big Z, Lindholm trade.
I'd say for the most part those payed off. Rutherford and Alvin are not afraid to change things.

I don't know about that. I like some of the upside. Stephenson is one year removed from Selke votes and is a great 2 way centerman.
We get high upside in Necas and a motivated Arvidsson. I would say that should get Petey going.
Pesce should be motivated and who better to earn a big contract with than Hughes.
B.Dillon provides us some Toughness, reliability and ability for tough minutes. He played nearly 20 minutes per this season.
Raty is a bit of a gamble, but I think he could compliment Miller and Boeser well.
Jokiharju is also a gamble, but I'd say at that price tag, he could man the 2nd PP and being in a winning environment with Foote and Gonchar may help him elevate his play.
I really like Kastelic as a 4th line center. Gritty, wins over 50% of his draws, could be a reliable penalty killer. Potential for a solid role player.
Tufte provides some size and could follow the mold of Joshua. Him getting a 2 year deal 1 way, may allow him to elevate his game.

I was thinking Frost might be even able to play on the Miller line. That line is looking for a bit more speed and skill, I think Frost has upside to be a complimentary player for that type of role. I like Suter, but he's more of a stop gap player. Suter is someone I would be looking to sell high on and upgrade.

If Pesce stays, which is what they're hoping for, Hronek isn't needed. Burns, Pesce, Morrow on the right, Hronek... doesn't matter. Hence, no interest. As for your KK buyout BS, Friedman discredited that a week ago. Carolina like the player, other teams want the player because he is a buy low candidate. Not a dump! Stop it now. No interest in this package</div></div>
Well Pesce is coming off his worst statistical season and was injury riddled all year. So you're willing to risk your right side of your Defense with a 39 year old Burns, a rookie in Morrow and Pesce who is coming off an injury riddled season? Doesn't make much sense.
What are you expecting for these players? Do you expect teams to just swallow the whole cap hit for KK who was demoted to the 4th line and is nearly 5 million per. I see the upside, but you're not even highlighting any risk.

How would you know they have no interest? Multiple "insiders" suggest the fit looks good. Canes have a lot of uncertainty on the blueline, especially the right side with Burns now a year older. Some stability on the back end makes sense. I've seen you suggest that KK has sooo much value, is that why there is talk of a potential buyout?
See the logic of the deal makes sense, we take the risk of the 6 year contract while hoping for upside, Canes take less risk taking on 2 years of Mikheyev who at minimum can be a solid role player.
If you think you're going to get a franchise altering player i think you may be mistaken.

Firstly I don't think Hronek takes anything under 7.25, so in my opinion he isn't worth that. This is classic asset management. You were saying there is risk In trading Hronek, well there is risk In any move you make. It's about evaluating the risk and seeing what makes sense as an organization going forward. In my opinion Necas is a top player in the league, he had a down year statistically, but the upside of him and Petey together long term is salivating. I think he would add such a dynamic element to our forward group.

Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tjm220</b></div><div>Suter is a fine player, but Jokiharju has value beyond what he does. Just by virtue of the fact, he is a right handed shot defender who is only 24 and has as much experience as he does he’s worth at least a second round pick to any team across the league. If he’s the odd man out in Buffalo, they should get more than a third line Center with a one year contract walking him to UFA.
It’s a similar argument to which of the top prospects in Buffalo is expendable compared to the others. Most other teams don’t have a prospect better than any of Buffalo’s top four: Kulich, Savoie, Ostlund, Rosen. Just because one of these players may be traded to make the core roster better doesn’t mean he’s less valuable than he would be if any of the others were in another team’s system. There’s a good chance whichever of them is traded if any is the best prospect for his new team. Jokiharju will probably not be the best right handed defenseman on the next team he plays for if he gets traded. But he could be a second pairing defender where he ends up next, and the return value should reflect that. I’m not expecting a gamebreaker in return for him alone, but if he’s part of a package to get one, that’s the type of trade I could see being made.</div></div>
I don't deny there is upside there with Jokiharju, but there is stability with Suter. He's not a top echelon player, but he can play in all situations. So I would say there is some reliability there. I don't watch Buffalo a tonne, but from what I've seen some reliability could be good as they integrate more youth in their lineup. You could argue that Nucks may need to dish out a bit more, but in my opinion not much.

Suter had a great season and is a cheap winger/center that can play up and down the lineup. There is definitely value in that. Saying that, my line of thinking is Buffalo is trying to restructure their blueline, he could be an odd man out. You've got Dahlin & Samuelsson on the left side and Power, Byram on the right side, you've also got Clifton there as well. I think this could be a deal that works well for both sides.

I like where this proposal is heading, to me the Canes trade makes a lot of sense. I would hope to there may be some retention on both sides that would be nullified for the first 2 seasons and then KK has reduced salary for the last 4 years. Maybe a million retained for Mik and KK.
I definitely think they find a way to get Big Z signed long term.

Necas isn't a RHD who puts up near 50 points. Canes seem determined to get out of the 6 year commitment to KK, where as Mik only has 2 seasons left. Canes aren't usually a long term commitment type organization. I think there may actually be some steam here.

I'm sorry to say, but you're a long ways from competing. Yes, Celebrini and Smith help, but your D Core is horrendous, don't have much on the wing. Have 2 anchor contracts in Couture and Vlasic.
Marchessault is going to want in the 7 million range over multiple years. Amadio is not better than Mikheyev and Sprong is a better offensive player, but Mikheyev is definitely the stronger 2 way winger.
Duchene is on his way to a cup final, only to go to the worst team in the league after? Domi is staying with the Leafs. I think the only player you could argue is Stephenson just from the sheer overpay they would have to do.
Or 2 years of Mikheyev at manageable cap hit.
