Have to wonder when Chayka is going to stop taking dumps and start utilizing his cap space towards winning.</div></div>
he's doing the right thing though. I liked a quote from him back then: he wants to pay players for what they're going to do, not for what they have done already (it was about letting Vrbata go to FA). he doesn't want to pick up the big names in UFA - which is the way to go, unless you can land Tavares (which you simply can't as Arizona). passing up on the likes of Eriksson, Lucic, Stastny, Backes etc pp is the RIGHT move. they're going to use the cap space on their own players once they developed and make shrewd UFA pickups like Grabner along the way. it's a model that will pay it's dividends sooner or later.

Thread:
New York Rangers signed Cody McLeod (1 Year / $750,000 AAV)
worst signing of the offseason.
he can't play hockey
he can't fight
he doesn't protect his teammates
what he does:
- take up a roster spot
- drag his line down
- stage boring and useless fights
I hate this watching this guy "play" hockey and you playing Cody McLeod is wasting your 4th line. NYR have a perfectly serviceable 4th liner in Fast, but to no ones surprise, the Rangers 4th line struggled mightily when McLeod was on the ice.
just look at these stats. they don't do the eye test justice - by the eye test, he is even worse.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-lang="en"><p lang="und" dir="ltr">????? <a href="https://t.co/fJ6IZ7q7TX">pic.twitter.com/fJ6IZ7q7TX</a></p>— Corey Sznajder (@ShutdownLine) <a href="https://twitter.com/ShutdownLine/status/1017493760052211713?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 12, 2018</a></blockquote>
<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
unforgotten how he failed to do the one thing he was hired to do - protect his teammates. both Vesey and Staal got horribly banged up with McLeod watching and not even retaliating later (which I don't like but the sole chance of this happening is enough for some to defend signings like this. it doesn't work. it never has. it never will).
this signing is inexcusable and sends the wrong message, blocks the path for guys like Lettieri and will inevitably lead to someone sitting in the pressbox who doesn't deserve it. **** it, I'd much rather have Glass back.

I really don't care though</div></div>
I am the delusional fan? I'm not a blues fan. if we were resorting to namecalling, I should call YOU the delusional fan. just check out how badly leavs fans are shitting on Gardiner constantly - and when trading him ,he's suddenly the biggest trade chip the leafs are willing to give up, getting another teams best prime players in return? sorry, but no. this is completely delusional (and you haven't even tried to refute my point)
Hamonic was a completely different situation too. NYI are not in "win now" mode like the blues, they trade prime players for picks. STL does not do that - they want to win. they have 0 reason to downgrade from Parayko to Gardiner for a few picks.

... why would you need to think that? the name doesn't have to be out there. if you ask for Parayko (STL certainly won't ask for Gardiner), that's what you have to offer. I specifically told you why that is so, so I don't see how it matters that "a name isn't out there"

Parayko
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>Both are more valuable than Parayko. He's a very good young player but Marner and Nylander are elite offensive players. Don't believe me look at Nylander's 5v5 stats, he's in the top 30 in most categories so is Marner. Marner when he was moved to Kadri's, scored the 7th most points from that point on in the entire NHL.
These two players 22 and 20 years old, are going to be stars in this league. Also St Louis wouldn't want to trade him, he's the future of their d.
So basically there is no way this trade would ever happen. Doesn't make sense from either teams standpoint, unless one of the teams goes overboard and offers way too much.</div></div>
yes and no.
they son't WANT to trade him and they don't NEED to trade him. IF they trade him, you thus have to overpay, so if STL is not getting the best player in the deal, they don't need to sell. there is 0 reason for them to settle for a lesser player in a trade. that's why you either ask for Nylander or Marner and if they don't want to part with either, no deal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DoctorBreakfast</b></div><div>Y tho? Why give a two-year, two-way deal to a guy that can't crack 20 points in the AHL?</div></div>
a) because they can. just 2 more RFAs, few roster spots left and just at 45 contracts.
b) I've read it before, I think in the parting letter of Marty St.Louis on the players tribune: as a 1st round pick, you're given more chances than other players. the organization spent ressources on you to develop you, maybe they had a plan for you, and if it doesn't work out, they're much more often committed to give you another chance than if you'd be an undrafted free agent AHL signing (or even guys like Clendening etc). in this case it's not a loss for the leafs to keep him around.

I dont'. give long term contracts to Skjei and Hayes NOW. why aimlessly flip around assets you're not going to usewhen you could sign cheap UFAs who do the same or more or fill the roster spots from your own system? I get some external depth will come in, but in this case I even doubt any of the SJ and NYI are interested in that. and Spooner, if traded, should get a better return. especially if paired with DeAngelo, who they haven't given up on.

this is the last wake up call one should ever need to never open that site again, let alone mention it on a discussion site who's owners pour so much effort into it that it's become canon in the community in only 2 years. we talked about this before. if this isn't the final nail in the coffin, you are beyond help.

this is the absolute single worst thing I have ever seen and one star is about ten times what this is worth.
honestly, this is so freaking bad I don't know where to start. you want to undo every single good decision (signing Pionk, drafting Chytil, commiting to the rebuild, not giving out **** contracts to aging vets, flipping Nash for assets) and reverse them in favor of doing the opposite to cobble together a still subpar team with a once again barren prospect pool. this isn't even mentioning that you made the team not only worse in the future, but probably even worse for next season.
