What would it take for Lindholm?
Love/hate Marchand also but this next deal he signs is going to be the one (IMO) "smart" teams avoid. He's coming off an extremely good year in which i think he over achieved so his base cap hit he will be asking for will be high especially if he has another good year. Like 7M+ high. Now add in the fact that they'll probably have to get him for 7-8 years i would think. Throw in a NMC as well. That's a contract that looks good now but not so good when hes 35.
If he's willing to take less than market value, then by all means lock him up long term. IMO at best he should get what Lucic got in Edmonton. Give or take an extra 250K. Him getting more than Bergeron just seems wrong but that's just me.[/quote]
I agree with you here. I think Marchand is their best trade chip right now, and when you combine that with the Bruins not really being cup contenders this year, I'd rather see them stack the deck with more top end younger talent, as they bridge to the next generation. I'd rather trade him now while his value is high, because otherwise, I think they will end up severely over-paying for mediocre performance from him down the road. I would imagine he will command 6-7 years at $7 mill per year. Once he gets paid - I don't see him scoring 35 goals + each year. I just don't think he's worth the risk.

No chance that sells him. He gets paid the same, no matter who he plays with for the next five years. First and foremost, he's going to want to go a place that he, and his wife, will want to live. When they shop a guy for a trade with a NTC, they get a list from him beforehand of teams he is willing to go. No chance, Krejci would put Winnipeg on his list.

I don't think the question has ever been posed to him, so I don't know why their would be a link on it. Just common sense. It's not a secret that players don't want to live in Winnipeg or Edmonton. That's why those teams have such a hard time signing free agents.

If B's are lucky enough to land Stamkos, I think they will be happy to part ways with Krejci's contract, and they need help at D. Maybe the B's demand more picks. But the B's unloading his contract will be a win in itself.

Bruins Stamkos
I don't entirely disagree with you, but I see Krejci as a #1 center for the bottom half of the league. I see him as more as a top end #2 center. But if they can move Krecji for a good dman, I am all for moving him over Marchand. I just see his situation as being more difficult to find a trade partner. I think a team with a dman the Bruins want (Fowler or Shattenkirk) would look at Krejci's contract and upside, and would rather trade Fowler or Shatt for a younger guy plus a pick or two.

I think Winnipeg would be a team that Krejci invokes his no movement clause and prevents a deal from happening. Minnesota may be more realistic.

Why do people think St. Louis is going to want Krecji? If they lose Backes, which would create a hole at center, it means that they didn't want to pay Backes $24 mill for 4 years. So what makes people think that they would want to pay Krecji at $36.25 mill for 5 years, AND give up Shattenkirk to do so?

I just think it'll be difficult to find a trade partner for Krecji. His no movement clause, and contract will make it difficult to move him. And he can play right wing - no need to keep him at C.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BruinsForTheWin</b></div><div><i>Anaheim should basically dump Fowler for futures, like STL should do with Shattenkirk. Both teams have serious Fwd holes and an abundance of dmen. They could use the extra cap to resign players like Perron, McGinn for Ana and Backes or Brouwer for STL. Plus Theodore is ready to get action, as is Schmaltz.</i></div></div>
Im not sure exactly how to handicap the trade value, but I think your assessment is off. St. Louis was looking for both Bruins 1st rounders + Patranak for Shattenkirk. One would assume, Anaheim would be seeking similar package for Fowler, especially since any team Fowler goes to, would have him locked up for 2 years. If Bruins sign Stamkos then I think it would make sense to reallocate $4 mill of value from Marchand down to their Defense. Especially since it'll be very difficult to sign Marchand next year, if they have Stamkos' contract.

Why not? Marchand's value is as high as it ever has been, and with Stamkos' contract, it will make it difficult to resign Marchand next year.

If they get Stamkos, this is why I think it would make sense to trade Marchand now. Trade him for a player still on an entry level deal, and a pick.

Doesn't mean they've given up on him. Not qualifying him means he'll get to see what his market value is. He may very well end up back with the Bruins - at their price and not his. Unless someone over pays for him .

To the Bruins - yes. It's basically their only way right now to secure a potential franchise dman. They will have picked 5 1st rounders in the past 2 years after tonight. They're a team stuck in mediocrity right now and won't get a player with the upside of Jones picking in the mid teens the next 4 years. If they offer lower money - then I think Columbus matches.

Thanks for the update, chico. Already outlined that in prior postings. Even so, it looks like a not-so-bad option for the Bruins though. After tonight, they will have selected 5 1st round picks in the past two years, which helps soften the blow a bit. There other option is to send 1 1st round pick + a Vatrano to the Blues for Shattenkirk, who has less of an upside and may only be on the team for one year. I think the Jones move makes more sense.

Neither of those trades get it done. If you trade for Fowler and Shattenkirk, you're gonna have to give up your two 1st round picks this year + 2 NHL ready prospects (Vatrano + Spooner). Which would leave some serious holes in the forwards.

If they offer sheet Jones, and CBJ matches it, is Jones required to stay in CBJ or can he make a choice?

Ya, it would be 4 first's.
It would definitely be an over-payment, but after Friday, they will have 5 1st rd picks in the pipeline from the past two years, which helps lessen the blow a bit. If they went this route, they wouldn't have to give up younger guys for this upcoming season (Vatrano, Spooner) for a Shattenkirk, either. Leaves you a little light on the wings, as you wouldn't be able to spend money there to bring in a free agent, but having a chance to see Vatrano play a full season in a top 6 role probably isn't a bad thing.
