Could be promising with a new coach
EDM is not paying to increase the cap hit on a bad goalie contract. If they’re paying, they’re doing so to cut ties with Campbell’s contract in its entirety and use the cap space wisely, not on Merzlikins.

I guess you haven't been watching the playoffs, holloway is playing his best hockey in the top 6 right now, and kulak is very consistent in the playoffs for us. Not trading either of them for a Band-Aid.

Draisaitl wants out
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bcarlo25</b></div><div>sure! so lets not be lazy and find precedent. something somewhat comparable. How about Erik Karlsson. When he was traded universally viewed as one of the 5-10 best hockey players on earth. younger than draisaitl. cheaper than draisaitl. plays a position that ages better than draisaitl. lets look at what he got:
1st
conditional 2nd
2nd
An "okay," prosect - he turned into something solid, but he was a late first round pick that was having a so-so NCAA year at the time.
flulff - some random bad prospects and depth to make the contracts slot in right.
I think that's a solid starting point
1st, 2nd, a good not great prospect, and some depth. personally, I think Draisaitl is worth more.</div></div>
I was actually thinking the exact same thing. EK65s trade to the Sharks is probably the best comp. So that’s a 1st, 2 2nds, a recent first round pick prospect (Norris), an AHL prospect (Balcers), a good bottom 6 NHLer (Tierney), a good young NHL RD (Demelo).
Let’s take the goalies out of the proposed trade here because it throws off the value. One could make an argument that because of Skinners age, they’re pretty close in value.
So you’re left with Draisaitl and a 2nd to the Bruins for Brazeau, Lohrei, and a 3rd. You said it yourself that you think Drai is more valuable than EK65 at the time of the comparable trade, yet the Bruins here give up no where near what Ottawa gave up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bcarlo25</b></div><div>oh good. we have another goldfish. usually we have to wait for around the deadline for this, but let me explain to you what happens EVERY year.
1. all the fans of teams that are selling start to post about how their expiring contract should get this crazy return. multiple firsts, core players going back, teams top prospects etc.
2. a few normal humans that are capable of looking up what players go for counter with reasonable offers.
3. the normal humans are called crazy. frequently you see things like, "30 other teams beat that offer." there's usually plenty of forgetting how much extensions boost trade value. "comes with extension," is also seen a lot.
4. the normal person trade happens.
5. the crazies act shocked.
Now, lets get into your actual comment:
Draisaitl has no trade protection. He probably wants to go to a winner. He may have some geographical requests as well - already we're probably down to 6-8 teams.
The team needs to have the need, and the cap space to acquire the player. We're probably down to 3-5 teams.
and that's how you get to a normal person trade.</div></div>
bro Meier got a way better return and low-key Lindholm did too
Draisaitl returns significantly more than this

Skinner and Ullmark have near identical stats, and Skinner is at half the price. Ullmark has failed in his last two playoffs, and Skinner is still playing.
One year of 5m Ullmark isn't worth that much in trade value.

Leon Draisaitl (one of the best 5-10 hockey players on earth) is very different than 99.99% of players that get traded.

Well that's what the actual cost would be, he's one of the best players in the world. If Pastrnak or McAvoy were expiring next year (both of which are actually less valuable than Draisaitl), would you be content with Sweeney trading them for a 1st, 2nd, 4th, AHL tweener, UFA rights to a middle 6 winger, and Poitras?

Of all the teams to trade Ullmark to...... Skinner 2.62 GAA, Ullmark 2.58. Skinner .905 Save %, Ullmark 9.15m. Never mind Ullmark's M NTC.
Ullmark's trade value plunges with his playoff record and the Bruins lack of faith in him in the playoffs this season.

A 3rd goalie who has worse stats than Olivier Rodrigue isn't going to be the team's 3rd goalie. Also, I don't think he'll still be waiver exempt once he signs his new contract. Young goalies that are trending in the wrong direction don't tend to return mid-round picks. You'd likely be looking at a 5th or 6th, if anything.

Dude, they need a goalie so bad. They get a top 10 goalie, you have to pay for that. RNH's numbers are inflated because of who he plays with</div></div>
RNH is locked in for 4 more years on one of the best contracts in the league. Inflated numbers or not, that is a fact. It also a fact that he’s a very skilled player regardless of who he plays with, or else you wouldn’t be hypothetically trading for him. Ullmark is a rental, who not only will be getting a raise, but who likely won’t want to resign in a location like EDM. It’s a pretty easy no for EDM. They can improve goaltending now and longterm without having to trade RNH.

massive IF LA gets rid of a headache and isles get rid of a bad contract
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MattyIce91</b></div><div>why though?</div></div>
Because Wahlstrom's track record doesn't paint a particularly encouraging picture while he's in the prime years as a forward (offensive peak for Fs between 21 & 25). And it isn't as if he has particularly stiff RW competition. He's also not the type of W that EDM should be looking to invest in. They need to target Ws that are either fast or multi-dimensional.
Despite the fact that Broberg wasn't in the NHL much this year, he's only just reaching the age most Dmen make the NHL full-time and has been as dominant as you'd expect a quality prospect to be in the AHL. As the team will need to open up cap space this offseason, there are few better options than to swap out Kulak and allow Broberg the chance to run with the 3LD spot. He'll also be a prime internal candidate to replace Ekholm as he ages out.
