Ty Henry Scouting Reports

Ty has to be watched closely to be appreciated. He does a lot of subtle things very well. Small area plays that contribute to defensive zone exits, killing plays when gapping up and fronting shooters to block shots.
Good size. Plenty strong. Pushes back in the hard areas.
Solid skater - especially on straight lines - up and down the ice.
Good edges. Pivots and generally maintains his pace.
There are times, occasionally, that Ty could push harder out of the blocks - exiting offensive zone from a dead stop / skating backwards ... and jumping from net front / corner to position himself quicker defensively.
Despite the fact he doesn't produce a lot of offense, he is capable with the puck. Ty can move the play from his zone / launch the attack via outlets. When things break down he chips pucks to neutral ice.
On occasion he walks the offensive blue line and directs pucks on net from range ... looks capable of doing it more often in fact.
Hockey sense / skating / compete are all in place.
Leans 'Defensive D' but could trend 2-way / Defensive D as he matures

Ty is the kind of defenceman who has the skill set to be used in variety of roles
On the PP he leans distributor more than shooter - has the legs to lead the PP breakout and zone entries - On the PK his reads are mostly sound but his spatial quickness has room to improve - he anticipates and knows where he has to be on the PK but coming out of his edges and jumping to pressure can improve - Gaps up to take away zone entries in his lane vs speed rush - Sound foundation - 2-way 'D' - not elite in any one category - swiss army knife kind of prospect - if he puts the work in he looks athletic enough and should continue to improve - recommend making more plays off his back-hand in practice and training to become more of a threat off both sides of his stick
