This deal works for me, it would really help put youth and mobility on defense, but imo MTL would need to make another trade to compensate the loss of Galchenyuk up front, as I don't see Sprong as NHL ready.

Pittsburgh needs a natural center who can play at both ends of the ice, that's just not Galchenyuk

Sprong is ready, leading the AHL in points and goals. We are just stacked on RW at the moment(Kessel, Hornqvist, Rust, Reaves). BTW no way Pens trade that Galchenyuk because they won’t even trade that for Duchene.

I think it is fair. Coming into the season I would have suggested Tom Kuhnhackl as the second piece instead of Sprong but TK has been great this year. Sprong may not be NHL ready at this point but he does have the higher upside potential.

success in the AHL means absolutely nothing... Hudon for MTL was like a point a game in the AHL and he still looks promising, but hasn't found his game yet in the NHL. and I'm not saying I wouldn't take Sprong, I would. I just prefered MTL to make another deal with another team because I don't think Sprong makes up the lost for Galchenyuk up front.

A year ago I’d take that in a heartbeat. This year though... Määttä is a PPG and is on an 8 game point streak and Sprong is absolutely tearing up the AHL leading it in goals and points. Can’t deny chuckies upside though. I think if this happened IRL I’d still be pretty happy though.

The irony about all these Galchenyuk trade rumours is that teams calling for Chucky, like Pittsburgh, are looking to acquire him as a Center. Montreal have one of if not the worst depth at center, and they play him on the wing...

I see only two options: #1 all pro scouts of the teams looking to get him are wrong or #2 Habs management really don't know how to utilize Chucky to get his full potential.

I think the answer is pretty crystal clear,

This is extreme overpayment on the pens part. And just unnecessary. We are thin as it is on D. A top 4 D playing probably the best hockey of his career and has potential to be a top pair Dman plus a top forward prospect for a 3rd line center that isn’t exactly the most responsible in all 3 zones? Nah

I’d be on board with maybe Sprong and a pick or Sprong and a mid level prospect. That’s about it

Take a look please! Now i’m not saying Sprong won’t be successful in the future. But people claiming that because he’s successful in AHL he can make it in the big leagues, it doesn’t hold up. Chris Terry plays for MTL’s AHL team, he finished second in scoring with 68pts in 58games, but in no way does he crack the Habs roster.
