I'd take this, even gives us room to bump up aa contract to 2.5 if need be. Don't think green will get us that much but the principle of the deal is there

No way is Edmonton giving up a 1st AND a 2nd for Green.

I can see dropping the second round pick, but he should be worth a first round pick with retaining half of his salary.

Why does Edmonton care if Detroit retains half his salary? They are well under the cap as is for this season. Their cap issues are for the future.

Exactly what I was thinking. The retained salary is nice, but not worth a high pick to the Oilers. They'd rather retain the pick and have the whole burden of Green's $6M AAV.
