They likely bring in one or two bad contracts for some prospects and picks, but honestly, add Neilson back in and im not really all that mad to start the year.</div></div>
It is not about money more about roster space for the young players to compete for.

TRADE DEADLINE 3DAYS AWAY
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kww3</b></div><div>I think you have fair value based on rumors. My only objection is that I (personally) wouldn't trade AA. This is just my personal feeling and I acknowledge that he's not untouchable like Larkin and Mantha but I think his ceiling is just too high. Also, we have a better defensive prospect pool (not you can ever have too many good, young defensemen). I just feel like we would have no one to replace AA in the system.</div></div>
I agree, I would like to keep him as part of the core, that is the one trade i'd not really want to happen, it seems like the Detroit writers think he should go.

NJ lacks a #1 on both sides, which would be what Shero is looking for. Fans are not sure he will make any moves at TDL, if so probably similar to what you suggested. I see he is a very fast puck mover, true?</div></div>
He skates well and moves the puck well he's a good third pair defenseman.

I won't paste the full limitations on Retained Salary Transactions (you can check them in the CBA in 50.5 (e) (iii) (C) if you want to read legalese), but they boil down to:
You can keep up to 50% of the cap and salary commitment to a player you trade.
You can only have such commitments to three players at any given time. (e.g. Toronto currently has that with Ben Scrivens, Matthew Lombardi, and Matt Frattin. They can't add another until one of those contracts runs out.)This comes from this article:<a href="https://www.lighthousehockey.com/2014/1/19/5321360/nhl-cba-rule-retained-salary-trades-ryan-miller" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://www.lighthousehockey.com/2014/1/19/5321360/nhl-cba-rule-retained-salary-trades-ryan-miller</a>

It leaves the Wings with $6 mil (+$4 mil Franzen LTIR) to resign Larkin, Mantha, bring in 3 more forwards (could be from GR), and sign a goalie (not necessarily Mrazek). If the cap stayed at $75 mil that wouldn't even be possible. It'd be the same exact AA situation all over again but with Larkin and Mantha.</div></div>
Next summer I would buyout ericcson, if sproul does not work let him walk. With Ericcsons cap hit from the buyout plus Weiss buyout cap hit dropping it would give them about 14,312,878 to work with, that should be plenty to get mantha and larkin signed and a backup goalie and it would force to bring up more young kids from GR.

I could see multiple things happen, I think they will AA at a lower rate because they have more control over him as a RFA, I also think they could get more for Sheahan it was just an idea, there is also an option that they could use the 48 hour buyout window that they get from having a player to file for arbitration, here is a good article: <a href="https://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2017/7/21/16012886/detroit-has-48-hour-buyout-window-but-will-they-use-it" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2017/7/21/16012886/detroit-has-48-hour-buyout-window-but-will-they-use-it</a>

I don't want to trade Tatar
I don't think you can buyout Ericsson now, I think the buyout window has closed. They might be able to if:The first is the most common - the regular buyout window. The start of this window shifts - it is either June 15th or 48 hours after the Cup is awarded, whichever is later. This window ends at 5pm EST on June 30th, just in time to let the dust settle before free agency starts.
The second is a window related to arbitration, and it carries some extra restrictions. For this window to open, the team has to have a player that filed for arbitration. This window opens on the third day after the team's last arbitration is concluded (or settled, if it doesn't make it to a hearing) and is open for 48 hours. There are also restrictions on which players can be bought out - First, the player has to have been on the reserve list as of the last trade deadline (so no buying out that off-season signing you regret until the next trade deadline). Second, there is a minimum cap value for a contract to be eligible for this - $2.75m AAV initially, but the value goes up based on the average league salary each year. The notable absence in those restrictions is that it has nothing to do with who went to arbitration, any player who meets those two restrictions can be bought out. There's one last catch, though - this can only be done three times by each team. Not three times per year - three times over the entire length of the current CBA.

I don't think it is as it once was but they generally pay higher price, and it is more of being within the same division, and I think a large amount of tatar's issue with Detroit also stem from how the red wings handled jurco.
