at this price, the Canucks shouldve kept him. solid back up for a little more than what a decent 3rd option should cost.

Guessing DeSmith doesn't want to be a #3 and expected Silovs to be placed ahead of him in VAN. He didn't want to be #3 in Montreal which is how he got moved to Vancouver in the first place.

He wanted to go somewhere where he would be the guaranteed backup. He didn't want to risk going to the minors. He did give up some money to do so.
