marner stays pay for D

Created by: AWhiteOreo
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 27, 2024
Published: Jun. 27, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
TRADES:
NSH: Glass desperately needs a change of scenery if he has any hope of keeping his career alive. Not really worth anything given his cap hit. NSH gets some PK and defensive help from Kampf and a bottom pair guy in Timmins. Cap swap for both teams.

CAR: Jarnkrok is a third line guy who can fill roles in the top 6. Plays with good speed/energy. feels like a canes type of guy. Probably worth a 4th or a 5th.

MIN: Liljegren has shown he can play in a second pair role and should come in at a fair price on a bridge deal. If he can find his stride in minny, he'll be a good fit once the lean cap years from the buyouts end. Should give some life to their PP as well. Lilly won't fetch a first (unless a team is really desperate) but is still only 25 and shown to be a reliable puck mover.

FA Signings:
Montour: Risky deal for the Leafs, but if Montour can show his old form, this would be a dream pairing for the Leafs and Rielly, who finally gets some stability on his pair. Maybe someone offers more money than this, but I doubt a better situation than the Leafs will be available; maybe he's got his cup and just wants to cash in.

Skjei: Steady second pair guy who can eat minutes. Him and McCabe will be a very solid second pair. $5.5M seems like a fair deal but again, maybe a desperate team offers up 500K or so more per year.

Broissoit: Leafs have comitted to Woll as their starter but still need a reliable backup to play 30+ games. Broissoit has shown to be one of the most reliable backups in the past few years. A fair deal for both sides.

Everything else is depth and/or RFA bridges.

No thanks from NSH. TOR can keep their cap dumps.

NSH declines. Glass still has positive upside. We saw this in the 22-23 season when he still put up solid numbers and proved he could produce at least at a 3rd line level and has shown flashes of more.

He struggled with injury plus adapting to a faster system this year, so next year will be a good reset for him, especially knowing now what to expect.

Kampf does nothing for NSH nor does Timmins as NSH has internal options that are cheaper and likely better.
