Marner stays - attempt to get rid of JT since he needs to go

Created by: Engarito
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 24, 2024
Published: Jun. 24, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trading away Marner will hurt the organization long term. Trading away JT for Marner his old buddies from London is a better move for longevity.

Montreal gets another 1st round pick to help move up to a higher pick and they get a high goalie prospect while removing cap to resign some young players.

JT waives to Dallas since they are close to winning, Dallas missed power down the middle in the face-offs, especially in the 3rd line. Pace of play fits him. Toronto retains to get Faksa back who is priced out by the two young wingers.

Avalanche shed some cap in trading Colton for Jarnkrok and get a pick for doing business since they provide the best player in the deal.

Minnesota needs low-cost high upside RHD, simple hockey-deal. Low risk - high reward for Minnesota. Can always waive after camp.

Since Toronto signed Woll 'long-term' as their #1, they sign a 1B in Wedgewood who will see 30-40% of the games with Jones as the mentor and stand-in who is sufficient enough, perhaps they can get him to sign a 2-way and give him an extra year.

Team is over-cap because I added a 5th line and 7th and 8th D-men.
All can be sent down and the team is cap compliant. If all waiver eligible players get sent down, team has 2 mil in cap space left over and carrying 3 goalies and 7 D on roster.

JT has to go to be able to build this year and push the year after. This also allows competition with the young players like Minten, Cowan, Grebyonkin to play several games and compete with names like: McMann, Holmberg, Faksa

Liljegren gets a 1 year prove it deal, typical Trelving deal (look at samsonov after arbitration)

Make it a conditional 6th for Timmins where he has to play 50 games this season for the pick to transfer

Zero interest from the Avs. 2 weeks ago Leafs fans were trading Jarnkrok to the Avs for a single pick now you want Colton? Lmao.

Worst case Toronto adds 2026 3rd pick from Dallas to get the deal done. Other centers are also available for that price point. The Avs need to shed cap, Toronto has no space for Jarnkrok, its a simple hockey deal with Avs getting 1-2 picks for the effort.

Shedding cap is worth quite a lot these days, Avs highly consider this deal for sure.

The AVS don’t need to trade Colton. I’m sure if the right deal came along they’d think about it. This however is not that deal or very close to being. There’s a few other players they’d attempt moving to free up space before Colton given their current situation at the forward position.

Could there be a worse thought? Retaining 5.5m on Tavares (who isn't waiving anyways) just to obtain 4.5, Dvorak. What the Leafs save 1m in cap and get a big decline at centre.
Why do you Colton drops his NMC to join the Leafs.

Tavares to waive is very unlikely. Thats why I wrote - Attempt to trade him. Of all places, he would likely only consider a team that is favorable for his income and where he has a chance to win, Dallas or Florida would be the only places. Dallas has the room and best fit. Getting Dvorak brings back Domi-Dvcorak-Marner, a huge moral boost for those 3 to compete.

I look at it as they are paying Faksa a 20 point player 8.75M.
