WPG fans are going to be upset when they get the equivalent of Jamie Drysdale.

Curious what Jets fans think about the Gautier trade as a comp for McGroarty?

Sure Ferraro is a less valuable trade chip than Drysdale, but McGroarty is also a less valuable prospect than Gautier so it seems like an ok starting point. I could see the Sharks having to add a bit here, but 14OA seems way too rich considering the similar Flyers/Ducks trade.

I’ve been saying that all weekend. Cutter was drafted higher and is better than Rutger. He’s not getting a 1st when cutter didn’t

wait hold up. I don't want to defend the McGroarty it takes 30 virgins crowd.
But Ferraro is 25 and let in 92 5v5 goals last year!
How the hell does that have any value?
I wouldn't give you a 7th round pick for him.

The whole team was terrible, but you're correct, he did not in fact carry the entire team by himself and so his plus minus is as bad as all the rest of the Sharks.

He's a solid young defensemen on a good contract who plays his heart out every night, but he's a #3 or 4 guy who was forced to be the Sharks #1 defensemen all year. On a better team in a better role he'll excel. That's just my opinion though.

look we can all make excuses and I don't want to bash anyone to hard here.
But 92 goals in 5v5 play!
92.....
I mean, just in comparison everyone knocks Graves, he let in 38 5v5 on a bad team with arguably spotty goaltending too.
I mean at 92 it isn't just everyone else.

Letang was on the ice for 71 5v5 goals, Karlsson was on the ice for 69 of them and Marcus Petterson for 67. The Penguins let in 172 5v5 goals this year while the Sharks let in *226*. Ferraro's percentage of the Sharks 5v5 goals is about the same as those guys.

Pittsburgh wasn't great this year and yet the Sharks were a much much worse team than them and Ferraro was putting up the most minutes and facing the toughest competition. You can't expect one defensemen to look good statistically while the rest of his historically bad team plays like crap around him.

I'm not trying to change your mind here, but I don't think looking at on-ice goals against without taking into context minutes, quality of competition and quality of teammates makes much sense. It's a team game after all.

Tbh the trade simply works if Ferraro was right handed. I agree that evaluating McGroarty would have him below Gauthier but a return would look similar. Hopefully a bidding war raises the price.
