Adding DeBrusk and Duclair would certainly help round out the top 9.

Sounds like they are trying to move Jarry along with Smith.

NSH has enough lefties on the backend already, and POJ isn't an upgrade on what's already there.

For just a 6th though, I'm sure someone else would be happy to have him.

I would move Jarry, definitely. It's beyond time. Move him for the best return, either get a goalie back in the trade or sign a stop-gap UFA.

My Honest Opinion:

Signings:

I do feel like Debrusk and Duclair would be some solid signings for the top 9, especially if Pens move out Reilly Smith (and maybe Rakell but I feel like for him you just have to hope he bounces back). It's been established that Bunting is solid with Sid and Rust, so perhaps does Debrusk pair with Geno and smth like the first line happens..?

However, I don't agree with signing OEL. He's a dman, yes, he did well with Florida, yes, but I don't think he'd fit well with the Pens. Pens either gotta hope Graves bounces back or shop for another top pairing D for Tanger. And it's also been established that Petey - EK is a solid Swedish pairing, so I dont think more Swedes are required.

Trades:

Utah trade I like. I think though Pens might have to retain 50% rather than just 20% for a 3rd, but if they can pull only retaining $1M off, it's not bad.

POJ to Nashville I don't see working. The 6th is probs the best you could get out of POJ, but I think Nashville just isn't quite the team that needs him. For a 6th, I'm sure plenty of teams would be looking to acquire him, just not Nashville.

I like the idea of adding scoring down the lineup, but at the end of the day, this likely doesn't move the needle enough to get into the playoffs.

let's hope it does cuz I'm afraid this might be best case scenario for our offseason. hopefully I'm wrong tho!

as for the signings I tried to go for two realistic guys with speed cuz we probably won't have a chance with bigger and longer contracts. bunting fits perfectly with both (played most of his stint with geno).

what kind of dman do you think we could sign? having EK and Petey, tanger and x ? not sure we can start with graves top 4 but we might have to.

as for trades they aren't really important. also poj to any team for a later pick. just don't want to lose him for nothing. and if we chose to give graves another chance at top 4 we can even resign him to be 3LD. I wouldn't mind. I just can't stand him playing with tanger.

So we are basically paying 7m for debrusk who had less production then Smith last year, and throughout his career? Idm debrusk but if he’s gonna get 6m per year the pens should just pass, that could be a disaster. And if that’s the only replacement the pens look at for smith then just keep smith IMO.

For the dman, I feel like you'd have to just put Graves at 1LD and hope he can have a bounce back season. If you remember what happened with James Neal and the Pens, he came post TDL and was horrible, and then next season became a 40 Goal Scorer. Now I'm not saying Graves is going to score 40 goals next season, but I'd say you just trust him to bounce back. Or if you can find someone to take his contract for smth cheap (whether we dont pay much in a pick or one of our "prospects" or can stack picks to get a better pick (ex. we stack a 7th on with graves and get a 4th in return)), then you do that. Or waive him like what NYR did with Goodrow and hope someone claims him. For replacements, 3LD could be Gustafsson off NYR if both NYR doesnt resign him and we can get him for cheap or Oliver Kylington off Calgary for someone kinda young (and then pair him with St Ivany, who looks NHL ready). If we do get rid of Graves, you can try and sign Zadorov to be a Graves-like replacement (if you can rely on him to do well with Letang. only problem with the 1LD is there's nobody 1LD worthy on the FA Market this year that is younger than 30 besides maybe Zadorov, and he's 29.
