Quinn is already a good top 6 player Sabres have no reason to do this they finally seem they want to be serious about winning this year.

I was thinking the reason would be:

You have Kulich, Ostlund, Rosen waiting in the wings (among others). Basically you trade 2 if these 5, in order to let the others play.

If it's not these 2, then perhaps it's Kulich & Savoie, or Kulich & Rosen.

Basically the idea being that not all of your players who are high picks will be looking for extensions in the same 2 year period.

Also, you have tons of young talent, but no team in NHL history has won with a team as young as this.

Sabres trade a good roster player and a good prospect that's close to being NHL ready for another prospect to strengthen an already good prospect pool? It just doesn't make sense.

They are buying out skinner. They are going to need ELC for the bad 4 years of the buyout. It doesn’t make sense from a Sabres perspective to trade an already established top 6 forward just because they have a lot of forward prospects.

I would hope there not buying out Skinner to fill with ELC'S, Sabres have plenty of ELC'S coming when his bad cap happens.

Mmm lol no. Not a chance.

More like 2x the quality for quality. 2x does not equal x. That be some bad algebra

So just to clarify: Quinn & Savoie would both go 5OA in this draft?

It does if you think all of your prospects are going to make the NHL and don't have room for them. Then you buy some time.

It downgrades the team now and also later if savoie turns out to be a better player than whoever is available at 5.

If Demidov is available, there is no trade to be made with any team. You draft the player. Its that simple.

Do you legitimately believe that might happen, because I don't. I'm not a huge Savoie fan. I was more in it for Quinn++

I would also argue, go get some vets. It's crazy to play a team this young year after year and expect different results.

I don't think Demidov plays in Montreal before 2026-27. I am looking to be better in 2024-25.

The thing about doing it year after year is that the players get older and more experienced. Trading away good young players for futures just to add bad vets is how the sabres are in the drought

Yes. Savoie is a very skilled player. They were also former top 10 picks. You don't trade two top 10 picks for 5oa

We don’t need quantity. Our roster is full and guys like Heineman and Farrell already don’t have a place long term

Not sure I agree. It's never worked for any team. But by all means...

Apparently his contract ends after this coming up year and then he's coming over after. 25-26. If you want to be better next year, look at free agency. Savoie and Quinn do not make the team THAT much better next year. Savoie still a rookie and Quinn hasn't quite established himself yet either. Both guys are still learning so there will be growing pains.
