Demidov or Levshunov

Team: 2024-25 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 20, 2024
Published: Jun. 21, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I've always been of the firm belief that in order to have sustainability in the NHL, you build your rosters from the back-end to the front-end. When it comes to the Demidov vs Levshunov debate, while Demidov sounds like the more exciting option and another toy at Bedard's disposal, scoring 4 goals a game won't be worth much when you're giving up 5. Since the Hawks are stuck with Jones's contract for the next half-decade and Murphy looking like a trade piece every off-season, outside of Rinzel, RHD looks bleek for the future. I think the drafting of Levshunov puts the fanbase and organization at ease to the point you can then focus on building around Bedard.

A core moving forward of Bedard, Nazar, Moore, Vlasic, Korchinski, Levshunov, and Commesso is a great start and you definitely have the opportunity to start having sustainability come 2026/2027

Lev ain’t even good defensively so you may as well take the superstar potential in Demidov. Dude is legit.

Yes, our RD depth is lacking, but WE DO NOT NEED TO USE A 2ND OVERALL PICK TO ADDRESS THAT NEED!!! There are tons of RD in the late 1st through the early 3rd round who would be great additions to add RD depth. Emery, Elick, Badinka, Kleber, Brunicke, Marelli, Danford, etc. I could go on and on. Demidov isn't just a shiny new toy, he has a high motor, he plays defense, he is very smart, he is a leader, and the talent is not just great, it is off the charts. Simply put, he is the BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE at 2nd overall by a mile.

Yeah. People are just seeing what they want to see with him. I don't want to tear the kid down, because he is an intriguing young player, but he doesn't belong in this conversation and the talking points of the people that want him are just ridiculous un-objective trivialities.

Let's chill the **** out for a second. In terms of right now, Levshunov is the more sensical pick over Demidov. Do I want Demidov? You bet your ass I do. But looking at how this roster is going to be shaped, I don't think KFC will pass on Levshunov at #2. Has nothing to do with who we want as opposed to who we need. Step out of your bubble Bedsy boy.

Projected around 5th-8th Overall in the 2025 NHL Draft is RD Logan Hensler. He has size and seems like he could be a defensive dman in the NHL one day on the top pair. Him with Korchinski one day is much better than Korchinski and Levshunov.

I like to think Rinzel pairs with KK and Vlasic pairs with Levshunov. Seth Jones is on a beach somewhere sipping Mai Tai's.

Lmao it's funny to hate on Jones but he actually had a great year last year. I believe that he is going to get much better as the team gets better. Think of it as similar to Jeff skinner prior to this year. A bounce back player that can be valuable and a big part of the team but never truly live up to the contract.

I'm perfectly calm. Capital letters doesn't mean i'm angry, it means I'm stressing a point. And I have stepped out of my bubble. I've been watching these kids all year. Levshunov is not a sensible or safe pick. He is fine. Demidov is the best player at 2nd, and Levshunov isn't even in my top 10.

Levshunov is the way. Build your backend first so that they're peaking at the same time as your forwards.

Jones is slightly overpaid, but even at the end of his contract he projects to be a solid top-4 defender on a very good team. Vlasic is already one of the best defensive defenseman in the league. The Hawks are still very high on Korchinski and Rinzel. That's the top four of the future. Between Wyatt Kaiser, Ethan Del Mastro, and Nolan Allen, the Hawks have some defensive depth, too. I'd argue that we actually are slightly better off at defense than at forward right now, but certainly it's close enough (and both Levshunov or Demidov project to be good enough) that positional need shouldn't be a factor here.

At the end of the day, the Hawks need to draft the best asset available. I have full faith in KD and team that they will do that. You want to draft the guy that has the most value and will be harder find later down the road via draft, free agency, trade, etc. I will be happy with either, but I think getting a guy like Levshunov is harder to find than a good top line scorer but it all depends where they see Demidov's ceiling. If he's Kucherov level take him but otherwise I think you go with the big RHD and it is an added bonus that he fits the prospect pool perfectly.

Even with the NYI pick if you can walk away with Demidov + Emery that's a frigging haul.

My thoughts exactly. Emery might be a little bit of a reach at 18, but not enough to be unreasonable. Really depends who is available, but I would not hate that scenario at all.
