*** Like with almost every submission here, this assumes NTCs are all negotiable. ***

I keep seeing RNH and Gallagher rumours here and others saying 4 first-rounders for Draisaitl. Here's a compromise that would offer a win-win for the two teams, especially if the option is getting 4 firsts instead of two proven NHLers.

Detroit is way over the cap and is rebuilding. Sending them homegrowns Mike McCarron and Jeff Petry, along with Victor Mete in return for Tatar, Green and Turgeon. McCarron has the potential to be a long-term player for the Wings; Petry is ample replacement for Green; and Mete and Turgeon and project.

Calgary hated losing Byron and has since lost Hudler. Lazar is a solid 2-way player who Ottawa did not want to trade within the East last year. Instead, they took a mid-second-rounder.

Pleks would do well in NJ and would help Zacha develop. At the deadline, he would make great trade bait. Lernout was the chosen the most-improved player on Montreal's farm last year, but there's not a lot of room in Montreal whereas NJ has very limited depth on D.

Maybe, but what if the Habs just offer sheet him at $10.5M? Do you think those for first rounders are going to help McDavid & Co get closer to the Cup?

So you are ready to give up on the 2nd best scorer of last year offence , for a 4th liner with some grind . ? Why would you need to put a 3rd also ? Byron fetch a 2nd anyday of holiday and maybe a 1st to a cup starve team .. Lazar ... oilers say no and block the fb .

If you did offer sheet (highly doubtful Drai says he wants to be an oiler) and give up 4 first round picks we can use those picks to get a better player than gallahger and schlemko

Drai is a pro hockey player -- he wants a damn contract. Chiarelli is yanking his chain. I am quite certain he'd sign a $10M offer sheet from anyone right now.

As for trading the picks for players, you probably right, but you can't get them in time for the 2017-18 season. However, you make a good point. Same logic applies the other way too. Montreal could trade Gallagher and Schlemko and get some "now" players, too

I like Byron a lot, but I think I tend to overvalue him. Maybe I undervalued him in this case. I think Lazar is a Julien-type player and will thrive under him.

What is the "fb" that the oilers will block? Sorry, I don't understand that one.

The end result is great. One way or another, the Habs should pursue Draisaitl (or at least mess with Edmonton's cap space). I live in Ottawa and really liked Lazar. Would love to see him in a Habs jersey. Imagine him and Shaw together.

Detroit needs help, but I think they'd probably say "no thanks" and I'd be sad to see McCarron go. He has a lot of potential, I think.

Those picks will be in the 25 to 30 range, so good luck with that.

facebook . lol . if an offersheet come , it will be 4 first rounders why would he settled for anything less ? Gally hand is a jeopardy atm , shlemko value is a 5th and with leon , the 2 mtl first rounder could be almost 2nd .... so yeah oilers would cut canal of communication in my humble opinion .

Lazar almost hit waivers , and will probably or play 4th line punching bag to west side malamuths and matamores. i would estimated is value to a 3rd or Sherback kinda meh prospect or Lernout .

The drai trade makes a lot of sence dor both parties but im not sure id go for it from montreal perspective, i dont care much for shlemko and the 2019 1st but gallagher as such an insanely good contract and plays a good 200feet game whilst playing agaisnt the opoding top 2 line. And 2018 is going to be so deep that first picks are going to be worth a lot.

The byron trade doesnt make sence, at least for the next two uear you make the team weaker whilst loosing a 3rd pick, if galgary where to jad a 3rd pick and montreal removing theirs then maybe, but not quit sure its worth it.

Im not sure on what is green situation in detroit or if he would extend with montreal lost of factor but assuming he wants out and extend in montreal (mccarron also need to extend on a two way for it to happen) i could see the trade happening but only in those conditions

Thanks ELEATE. I'm not sure how to make it happen, but Draisaitl to Montreal makes sense for both teams, even if it costs Pacioretty or Weber (not both ... don't get excited Oiler fans). But if the phone call doesn't go well for a player-for-player swap, Bergevin should just go for the offer sheet.

I wouldn't necessarily want Green to extend. He's 32 and has never been a reliable Dman in his own end. He was a stop gap in a deal aimed at getting Tatar and helping the Red Wings deal with their cap issues. But having him for a season replacing Petry gives Juulsen and, hopefully, Butcher some time to mature on the farm.
