Nelson Trade

Created by: HP633788
Team: 2024-25 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 18, 2024
Published: Jun. 19, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Upgrades Zacha to Nelson, a legitimate center, who can help complement Pastrnak more effectively. Add two 35+ goal scorers, as well as a stiff and reliable second/third pair defenseman who can complement any of the Bruins right defensemen depending on the development of Lohrei and whether Lindholm can positively regress to somewhere between his last 2 regular seasons. Multiple strong playoff performances by DeBrusk are rewarded. Heinen may be underpaid here but really unsure where his number lands, wouldn't pay too far beyond 1.7-18. Ullmark trade gives the team two 25' firsts, allowing deadline flexibility if a trade is warranted depending on team's position and needs. Duhaime adds some depth and snarl.

Nelson right now is miles better than Zacha. Islanders might consider this because Zacha is younger and they are not really close to contention. 1 goal in 25 playoff games is not a small sample size at this point, and Zacha's regular-season point totals are overinflated from playing with Pastrnak. If we expect Pastrnak to actually produce in the playoffs you have to give him a linemate capable of scoring, Nelson is a better offensive center than Lindholm and probably the best available center offensively this summer. At the end of the year you can decide to pay Nelson or put his money toward other available centers. Zacha scored 21 goals on a line with Pastrnak, Nelson scored 34 on a line with washed Anders Lee and Palmieri. That is not a small upgrade by any means.
Dillon maybe a bit overpaid sure and I'd rather give him 2.75-3 million, but would pay this as he is a legitimate second pair d-man who kills penalties and would put the Bruins in a much better position to contain opponents top scorers--the defense was awful in the playoffs and consistently bailed out by Swayman, they NEED a steadying presence like Dillon. I'd bet you the Bruins don't sign Dillon, but I'd also bet someone gives him 2-3 years at 4.5+.

Isles wouldn’t retain unless they get a 1st. They’re all in. They would be downgrading their top 6 and losing cap space with this deal. They would need one of those 2025 1sts to even consider something like this

“Washed Anders Lee and Palmieri” - LOL! They literally just scored 20 and 30 goals, respectively, this past season.

You’re right lol I had some weird stat come up from Anders Lee I think it was career playoff goals even though I looked up regular season points, my bad, didn’t mean Palmieri was washed.
