I'd use the offer sheet calculator to determine where to start your offers from. If the other team is not cap crunched and the player is outperforming their current contract, then that is an absolute floor for trading the player. The real trade value would likely be higher though, because GMs just never seem to do offer sheets.

My best-guess inputs to the calculator:
Cap Hit: 7500000
Length: 7 years (maybe the Bruins opt for something like 6 years, but I think they go 8)

Compensation: 2 1st round picks, 1 second round pick, 1 third round pick

Holtz is not worth a 1st + 3rd round pick at this point in time (although maybe he will be!), so I think you need to increase the offer substantially to have a real conversation. But in my opinion, it would take a real godfather offer to pry Swayman away from the Bruins this offseason. Probably young roster player (Mercer), high-end prospect, and 1st rounder (could be 2025) as the starting point. It can be fun to talk about it, but I don't think both sides could ever reach an agreement. Maybe in the future if something changes, but not now.

I don’t believe the Devils have the prospect in their system which makes it worth it.

I know this will upset some Devils fans and they will talk about the value of goaltenders. I wouldn’t trade Swayman for Mercer and #10

Bruins would be extremely dumb to trade Swayman. After that playoff, you 100% trade Ullmark and keep swayman. It shouldn’t even be a debate

Let me ask you a question regarding that.

Would you rather have 10th overall, Holtz, and 2nd

Or
NJD 2025 1st, NJD 2026 1st, 2nd, 3rd

Because I would be much happier to give up those 2 future 1sts

Between those two, I would rather have the package with the 2024 10 OA. Neither is enough for Swayman in my book, but I agree that one is better.

But just to be clear, for an offer sheet I believe you must give up the soonest draft picks that are originally from that team (unless I misunderstood the offer sheet FAQ). So if it were possible to offer sheet, it would require the 2024 1st and the 2025 1st.

Offer sheets go to the teams next unprotected picks.

But the offer sheet window comes after the draft.

Any 2024 offer sheets would require 2025 picks. I believe 1sts can transfer to future years, (eg if we don’t have a 2026 pick it could be 2025 and 2027 1sts)

this. then factor in that in any offersheet, you've gotta overpay the player, so up it from there.
