Change Matheson to Guhle to begin with…
Thats not a "to begin with " conversation , thats basically the deal itself.
Guhle went 9 spots before Holtz and made the NHL as a Regular who's top 3 in minutes in the top 4 since his rookie season 2 years ago
Holtz went ahead of him and is a Winger who develops usually first of all drafted positions and has 4 less games and 6 less points then Guhle
Its a PRETTY BIG GAP between Holtz and Guhle as D like Guhle arent just given away by anyone
Granted the 10th OA is worth more then Mesar, 2nd and a 3rd but more then the gap between Holtz and Guhle
But really i'd say by about as much as MTL's 26th OA pick is from NJD 10th OA
If it was me
Holtz
10th OA in 2024
for
Guhle
26th OA in 2024
57th OA in 2024
78th OA pick in 2024
NJD gets the better player
MTL gets the better pick by giving up 3 for 1 to balance things.
Top pair D are Always worth more then Wingers even when they produce more offensively then a Defensman you're trading for.
The gap between players and picks is about proportionate.
MTL sells a player that the GM said he wont is my only concern.
But hypothetically if this trade for Holtz with a 10th OA for Guhle were to happen
Thats the best i could see us offering as we could put Guhle on RW and still get better production then Holtz will in NJD
No offense to Holtz either its just we put Guhle on 1st 2nd or 3rd Pair LD or RD and he doesnt change his play unlike all our other D.
I have no doubt he could play Wing if he wanted to at the same level or higher then Holtz has shown
