Marner can't sign an extension until July. The draft is in June. Seattle also isn't trading 8th OA for someone a year away from FA

Marner comes with extension per post, verbal agreement

Lol that's not how that works. Seattle cannot legally talk to him until after July 1st, and even then only if Toronto gives permission. You think Francis is just going to take a "trust me bro, he'll sign" from Treliving?

I'm pretty sure the whole "legal part" is useless in the NHL. I remember Jack Campbell signed a 5x5 after like 10 seconds that free agency started

It’s absolutely how it works. That’s how teams have contracts set up to go at 9am on July 1st lmao. It’s been well documented in the past that is happens all the time, that’s literally why the UFA rules were changed to allow teams to start the process one day early, because they were already doing negotiatons lmao

That's free agency, their teams lose rights at midnight on June 30th, but nobody can sign until noon Eastern on July 1st. That's 12 hours to negotiate beforehand. Marner is over a year away from free agency. He can't talk to anyone but Treliving

You aren't getting it there is a massive difference between talking to an unrestricted free agent and talking to someone else's player under contract for another year.

He would be on the kraken at that point. Agreed upon that Mitch would be willing to sign in Seattle long term before trade is made. Once trade is made dollars and cents are worked out with agent. Signing happens July 1. Thanks for coming out

Explain this process to me then? Seattle is not allowed to talk to Marner prior to July 1st so they cannot discuss any terms on a contract whatsoever (ie length, AAV, structure, bonuses, clauses, etc) so how do they have an agreed upon contract? If he gets to Seattle and doesn't like what Seattle is willing to offer him what stops him from just not signing an extension? Maybe Marner is just desperate to get out of Toronto so he waives and then changes his mind about signing. There is no sane world where Francis would want to trade for him without at least talking to him first.

Yeah sure I can do that for you.

GM Toronto to Marner agent; Would Mitch waive his NMC to Seattle.

Marner agent: yes

GM Toronto: would he be willing to sign there long term?

Marner Agent: yes

You’re also out of your mind if you think Francis wouldn’t talk to Darren Ferris about the possibility of Marner signing long term, dollars and cents? Probably not.

Also out of your mind if you think things like that don’t happen behind closed doors, not everything is by the book lmao

When I say they aren't allowed to talk to Marner that includes his agent obviously.

But fine keep pretending everyone cheats. I guarantee Marner isn't traded until July if at all
