if they want to tank

Created by: Leahyl29
Team: 2024-25 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: May 16, 2024
Published: May 16, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trades: All these seems very possible if they truly commit to a rebuild. ( I don't think they will but still a fun exercise)

UFAs :
Stolarz is a safe option to help Hofer transition into the starter role. No reason to have Zherenko up as well with Hofer.
I don't want Kapanen back either but if they want to tank, another year at a Mil wouldn't hurt anything.

Stenlund: Fun 4th liner on a prove it deal.

STL
  1. Stramel, Charlie [Reserve List]
  2. 2024 1st round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
don't worry too much on the team I picked/prospect it's more so I just want a 2024 1st and A/B level prospect.
MIN
  1. Buchnevich, Pavel
Additional Details:
I wouldn't go longer than five years on an extension offer. If he wants more years, then trade him.
2.
STL
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (DET)
  2. 2025 3rd round pick (DET)
DET
  1. Saad, Brandon
Additional Details:
Any team that wants to be competitive next year should consider trading for this guy. Auto 20 goals and defensively responsible. perfect depth winger.
3.
STL
  1. Heimosalmi, Aleksi
  2. 2024 1st round pick (CAR)
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
don't worry too much on the prospect. idk anything about prospects. just want a 1st and a good prospect back. not sure how they make the cap work but it would be fun to see Binner on Carolina.
CAR
  1. Binnington, Jordan
Additional Details:
This trade would hurt the most just personally as a fan but if they truly want to tank it has to happen. He's way better than ppl give him credit for.

If they were to tank I agree that these guys make the most sense. Maybe doing like a Krug trade w retention too if possible? Ik that contract is virtually unmovable but....

Binner is a good goalie but also not such an upgrade on Andersen that the Canes should spend their 1st and send a prospect, doubly so since he makes more than the two current goalies on the Canes combined

They don't. And it's very not necessary to the point of being a terrible idea. And the franchise can't afford it anyway.

Not touching Binnington, he is bad.

He’s objectively way better than any goalie on Carolina. Masterclass performance by Andersen tonight btw. You’d be lucky to have a goalie half as good as Binnington on your team

Objectively? You sure? Subjectively, maybe based on whatever you are pushing

Binnington has a better GSAx (top 3 in the NHL) & save percentage even though he has one of the worst defenses in the NHL in front of him. Now let’s see you explain why he is “bad”.

Yea I know, key word is “IF”

Imo we need to. This team is not competing for anything within the next 2-3 years. Bottom 5 in the majority of the important 5v5 stats.

The conceptnof punting the primes of Thomas and Kyrou is stupid beyond belief. And all these Blues fans clamoring for it would probably abandon ship a year in anyway. It's nonsense. And financially unfeasible. And goes against the ethos of the organization, for better or worse.

Where was Vancouver last season? Things can change fast and this team is not so far off as people love to pretend.

I love your optimism.

You can trade Binner and Buch and be fine. Ik you think you know everything known to man but believe it or not it’s possible to bottom out for a year and be back into contention for a wild card spot. You suggesting I’m “wasting Thomas and Kyrou prime” is a joke quite frankly. Hofers contract suggests that after this year he’s the guy. He should be ready after next year for number 1 starts. Also did you go to a game this past year lol… I’m a STH the whole upper bowl was filled every game. “Can’t afford it” … my ass haha

Last season was not a tank, though. And I am not 100% against trading certain guys, but I sure as hell am not interested in handing Buch to a rival.

And when was the last time a team only "bottomed out" for one season? It's simply not necessary. Stick to the plan.
