Take out the 1st and still no. Toronto adds in a Marner for Kempe swap, IMO.

        That’s crazy

Retain 50% on Marner and maybe the Kings would add. 2 years of Kempe at $5.5M is more valuable than one year of Marner at $11M.

I’m just assuming based on precedent with NHL stars being traded but a lot of the time they are traded with an extension or with intention of signing where they are being traded. So would most likely be more than 1 year. Unless Marner pulls a Kawhi Leonard, doubt he reaches UFA after being traded. NHL GMs don’t like risks

Lol y’all are so negative on here it’s crazy. Why would Marner want to stay on a team who allegedly, doesn’t want him. Seems like a toxic environment to be in. He obviously has a lot of control but if the Maple Leafs came to him and said “we don’t want you” at that point wouldn’t he just want out?

He would also push all of those teams into playoffs (who missed this year) and for the teams that made it (LA/VGK/CAR) they will prob all need a shakeup of some sort. Especially if Canes get bounced in round 2 + Necas has been rumoured in multiple trades over the past year or so. VGK has shown they will trade for star players no matter what it takes and LA has lost three years in a row to the same EDM team.

Could see him going to any of these teams, and just like the Eichel situation (only a few suitors) Buffalo still got a haul for him. NMC doesn’t = no value

It's a really silly comparison to Eichel. Eichel was traded with 4 years left on his contract. Eichel left a non playoff team to Cup contender....which is why he waived his NMC.
Marner is on a good team now. He won't be waiving without a contract as he wants to keep up his good numbers.
I'm not being negative., You just don't having any appreciation of Marner's NMC (to some teams) , but more than that no appreciation of other teams cap

Kings can't afford to extend Marner. They're in cap hell as it is.

Nope you said the Canes don't have any money so take the Necas/Kochetkov/2nd and the Canes will pay Aho/Slavin/Matthews

NHL stars don’t get traded without extensions or the intention of signing with the team they are going to. You gotta assume that he’s being traded with an extension in almost any scenario.

And teams would most likely try to make it work for a talent like Marner so I’m not gonna play GM for 10 other teams

teams can sign him to an extension

That doesn't mean that teams will pay extra for him. And he'd have to waive his NMC. Not a recipe for success.
