McTavish alone is more valuable than Marner rn, not saying he is better but he is obviously more valuable right now. Not to mention asking Anaheim to retain 5 million for 2 years

Marner trades are speculative to the point of mootness because we can't tell, and nobody knows, whether we're getting one season of Mitch Marner or seven, so this is idle and meaningless conjecture.

Anaheim projects that five of the top 6 forward positions are set for the near future: Zegras and Gauthier at LW, Carlsson and McTavish at C, and Terry at RW. Marner would obviously be a nice sixth, but we've seen absolutely no reason to believe that he would sign a long-term contract in Southern California. One season of Marner does us no good because there's no chance that adding him would make the Ducks a playoff team in 2025 -- the Ducks finished TWENTY GAMES out of the playoffs this year, and Mitch isn't going to overcome that.

Dubas was right, the time to trade someone was last off-season, now everyone is locked into NMCs. If the leafs trade Marner, they'll get a smattering of middle 6 pieces coming off to ~9 million, and maybe a couple project prospects. With a NMC he might only waive for one team, he might waive for two, but there isn't going to be an all out bidding war, and with his contract demands and the frankly disasterous year he's coming off of, he should be taking a discount, not a raise.

You won't get any young stars back, you won't get a ton of cap space back, you'll get depth.

Money, positional value, age, contract status, character, team leverage etc all factor into value. It’s not all point production.

McTavish will be looked at more favorably in every one of those categories aside from points, and while he probably isn’t a regular 90+pt player, he likely is a 70-90pt player with good linemates (like Mitch has been playing with).

There is quite literally a 0% chance ANA would even think about moving him for Marner
