Not allowed under the CBA. A player involved in a retained salary transaction cannot be traded back to a team who retained salary on his contract for at least 12 months.

As long as the trades are a year apart, it's legal. If that works for BUF, I think CHI could be convinced. That is a pick CHI would probably love to have.

Edit: Also, You should just send him to CHI without retention and then have us retain half. That would be $2.25M less of a cap hit for BUF than how you have it structured currently.

Thank you Garak but I don't think Chicago would trust Buffalo to keep their word and take Skinner back. I will try to circumvent in another manner. Maybe it can be a three team trade.

In your scenario you're not saving much at all since the rained amount is still on your books so you're paying 75% of his salary. Not sure if it's legal but if a team were to receive him plus a sweetener for FC and turn around and trade him back half retained, now you're only paying 50% instead.

Well... An 11th overall pick is a pretty valuable pick. I think they could be convinced to take all of Skinner's contract for the last 3 years for that pick.

Blackhawks want to tank right now and can get good picks by themselves. Skinner might have been a good player for Bedard to rack up points and still lose games to continue the tank, but Skinner isn't at that level anymore. Skinner would also take a spot away from rookies. I also know Bedard needs to be extended - Skinner won't be off the books until after that happens.

One reason I thought this trade would work is because the 2.25M will stop once that 11th Overall pick needed to be extended. I didn't know it was literally illegal. Thanks for the talk though!

It was going to be a lifetime supply of car wax but I awarded that to the 100,000th Kampf to Chicago proposal yesterday. Guess you get gold stickers.

Sure. But our cap situation will still be ok even after paying Bedard and the others. The cap will likely be close to or over $100M by then. I wouldn't be too worried about it, personally. But, sure, it's a legit concern.

I gotta get the tree sap off my car before I wax it anyway. So, that works for me.
