It's fair. Not amazing. The canes have more than enough money to keep everyone on board next year.

Canes have more than enough money to keep everyone. That isn't interesting for Necas

Yeah but that won't be the highest bid if Carlonia really decides to move Necas.

I don't think that teams will gonna want to make the PLD mistake part 2 with Necas.

That's a great trade for a player like Necas.

The most important on the list are Jarvis Necas and Guentzel. I'm not sure why Carolina would sign DeAngelo, Skjei, or Martinook before having the money for Necas. I could see the argument for Teravainen or Pesce, but at that point they have enough money to keep Necas anyway.

If you were buying a comparable RFA off of a rebuilding/retooling team, that package might work. However, it won’t work when you are trying to buy a top 6 winger off a contender. Especially since the Canes don’t have the need nor desire to move Necas. The Habs would have to force the Canes hand with an offer they can’t refuse if they are wanting Necas, or they can go the offer sheet route. Either which way, the Habs won’t be giving up the pieces the Canes would be wanting if they sent Necas to the Habs, and I don’t think the Habs are interested in a Round 2 of offer sheet shenanigans. A bunch of whatever futures, that at the very earliest might have a chance at making the roster in 3-4 years, is of no interest to the Canes.

Winnipeg's pick will be about 26th. The teams picking 10th to 16th aren't really rebuilding so if one of those teams decided to give up their 2024 1st in a package for Necas.

I get it you want Necas but Montreal isn't in a position to be giving up that much for a single player. Montreal will continue to get better as prospects get called up but they are still at least a couple of years from the playoffs. Teams like Detroit, Buffalo and NJD are going to continue to get better as well. The you have teams like Washington, Pittsburgh and Tampa with super stars who aren't going to roll over and ply dead. Then you have Philly who was supposed to be entering a long rebuild but were with in 5 points of making the playoffs and Ottawa who most thought were a playoff tome at the beginning of the last 2 seasons.

I think they’re going to make a swing at a forward this summer, just like they did with Dach and Newhook. Necas is one name of many that have been in rumours. Hoping they don’t have to give up a Guhle calibre asset so trying to package picks is probably the more ideal route

Just about everyone will be interested in Necas.

You have to realize not all of your prospects are going to work out and even less are going to live up to their draft position. Next trying to buy your way out of a rebuild almost never works and in the very few cases where it does work you are still short changing your self because one of the biggest factors for long term success is developing players through your own system. That is rather difficult to do when you're trading multiple picks and prospects for a single player.

The habs have too many picks and prospects for them all to have a spot on the roster, especially on defence. It’s a good problem to have and gives them the chance to make a package for a good player

No offense to Habs fans, but I think every single mock trade for Necas has been garbage. Every single of your young defenseman are garbage minus Reinbacher and Guhle. Jordan Harris was mid in college and isn't good defensively. Also, I just don't get the Justin Barron hype he was never a point per game player throughout his whole junior career in a league that has a poor track record when it comes to drafting. Also, it's not comparable to the Fiala trade because they got two A prospects out of that. Montreal and Carolina are not really good trade partners for a Necas trade unless they fork up one of their top d prospects or forward prospects.

I do agree that it’s a long shot that Necas leaves Carolina but I still think they have a lot of decisions on who they want to keep. They can probably only sign 2 of Guentzal Jarvis and Necas unless they want to decimate their depth. Those 3 combined are going to cost at least 23mil total and they only have like 30mil cap space

Only 27 mil cap space plus they also have Pesce Skjei Teravainen Martinook DeAngelo Drury all due for a new contracts. My guess is Guentzal goes to free agency and then they should be fine
