Young fast cheap 40 point pace winger with upside who Dubas loves? Could totally get your worse 2nd rounder

Looking from afar, I think everyone except CHI accepts.

Jones value is a bit of a mystery to me. Before going to CHI he was easily the most overrated D in the league, and now he has an albatross contract.
I'm trying to bridge the gap between how I see the guy, and how the 100 hockey men MIGHT see the guy.

I'm a big fan of Lily personally, so truth be told - I really don't like this deal for Toronto. But new GM and big changes as well as his name being dropped specifically means I'm trying to find a situation where it MIGHT work out for us

I just don't see CHI retaining $2M for 6 years. I also don't think that they need the cap space immediately. I'm not as big of a fan of Liljegren, so he's mostly a throw in for me. It's thinking outside the box, but I don't see that trade even as a remote possibility for either side.

I expect Tre to bring in Tanev on a 3 year contract, and one of DeMelo/Roy to strengthen the D core. Aside from that I think he will look for a defensive 3C, either via trade or in free agency.

I’m not even sure that I’d trade the 3rd for him, but that’s probably his value. He’s definitely not worth a 2nd.

I've never understood this sites reluctance to retain for a long time. In big trades involving big contracts - it absolutely happens! Kessel was 7 years at 1.2!!! (translates to 7@1.5 today). 6@2 isn't crazy for such an albatross deal.

I also think its weird how little people value guys like Lily. Sandin was worse than him and he landed a 1st round pick. Lily is Keefe's most used D when trailing and when protecting a lead this year. His underlyings are great and he is young. I basically consider him a younger Rasmus Andersson

Deals like Kessel's are few and far between. SJ retained salary on Hertl, but I have a hard time recalling a lot more of those trades. Especially since I don't necessarily see the benefit for CHI.

As for Lily being a young Andersson, I think you're kidding yourself. He was a healthy scratch in both of the previous playoffs. Was he a healthy scratch in game 4 as well? He's 25, that's what 2 years younger than Andersson? Rasmus was playing top pairing minutes, putting up 50 points, and being +30 at the same age.

Sure it doesn't happen often, but in a trade like this it's totally on the table and what would need to happen if they were to move him. Getting younger and cheaper would be the next move in their rebuild

Being on the outs does not denote performance.
Lily is playing top pair mins. When down or ahead he is #1 in usage. People on here just aren't paying attention. Put him on another team (like CHI) and you'll see exactly what I mean. Also are you really trying to eval defensemen with points? It's hardly defensible for forwards, and you're trying with D?

I just used points as a quick way to gauge Andersson being an impact player at that age. I hope you're right and that Liljegren takes another step. Defensemen often take longer to develop. Hanifin had his career year at 27.

At the same time I think you're off on his evaluation. And that would be a risky trade if you bank it on Liljegren becoming a top pairing D.

You'd really prefer the Dion Phaneuf trade to this? Are you unwell?

He was specifically named as a target Trev is looking at. What I posted here is a best case scenario I think

put down the pipe.

Just because TOR drafted him in the 2nd round doesn't mean that's his value.
He has little to no value, and you can be assured the penguins aren't trading for him. He offers nothing to the penguins.
He's at best a middle 6 LW. Which the penguins don't need. They have both DOC and Bunting there. WTF they need a 4'1" AHL level guy there who disappears when games get hard.
Fact is you take his time off the top line in TOR and his point value is nothing. He's just there taking up space. It's like trying to say Puustinen is a 30 pt winger. He's worth your 2nd round pick.
Penguins have no interest and no need for that crap. They got multiple young prospects who are better than him in the wings which everyone would rather play.

Hawks easily decline. They aren't looking to move Jones and they aren't retaining for 6 years. That package doesn't even get Jones without the retention. Jones may be overpaid now, but as the cap finally starts ro rise, that cap hit will neutralize. He's still a legit #1 RD.

I dont see FLA trading with a divisional rival and if we really think about it why take Marner when you got Reinhart to extend

Zadorov really isnt a top 4 guy and I would not want to give him that deal. Rather target someone like Dillon but realistically why not just have McCabe as the second pair LD and then go target 2 RD

And Jones is such a ? and while he's been better its so finicky with him

I like the concept im just not sure these be the right moves or the most realistic

Reinhart will never approach this past season again. If I was Florida I would let anyone else pay him his 9.5 million and immediately wonder why he produces like a 6 million dollar player.

Zadorov is definitely a 3rd pair defenceman. Jones is a 2nd pair defenceman. I will legit pick a new team if Treliving does exactly what I think he will do which will gut the team.
