Cracks in the Atlantic

Created by: Rooster
Team: 2024-25 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: May 5, 2024
Published: May 7, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Both the Leafs and Bruins look vulnerable to a bit of a drop off next year. Ditto the Lightning. Hoping Staios and Co. make the moves necessary to compete for a playoff spot.

My initial reaction to Travis Green as head coach was not a positive one, but as I read more about him and his philosophies, I'm warming to the idea.

There’s no reason for ottawa to do most of these

Can’t agree with you on this. We cannot go into 24-25 with the same goalie tandem. Chych is not signing an extension. And it’s well documented that the RHD issue is a major priority for the team.

I think Dallas considers that and maybe counters with a high prospect plus a 2nd or 3rd.

They’re not trading a high pick with Korpisalo they can just buy him out .

Chychrun will get more than a pick in the 29-32 range

    Joseph is not for sale

Forsberg can be buried in the minors if you’re just gonna retain that much

Well it didn't work with any of the last ten or so guys, but THESE will finally be the career backups that turn around the goaltending situation in Ottawa!

Blackwood is a stop gap for a season. I think Broissoit is ready for some prime time.

Brossoit is 31 and has never played more than 24 NHL games in a season. One of the only other NHL orgs that comes close to OTT in terms of goalie trouble in NJD ran Blackwood out of town. With the retention on Forsberg you're not even saving money. Why give up a 1st to do that.

All valid points and maybe you ride out the last year of Forsberg's contract. More importantly, I don't see how Korpisalo can be brought back. It was a terrible signing and one done by the previous regime. I think a late 1st rounder to get that contract off the books and that signing into the rearview mirror is a price I'd be willing to pay.

If you buy Korpisalo out then he's on the books for years. I would rather rip the bandaid off and offer up a late 1st round pick in what most are describing as a very light draft. Difference in philosophies on this one I guess. My thinking on the trade is that a) Korpi cannot be brought back after such a horrible start to his Sens tenure, b) trading him also erases yet another of the many horrible miscalculations of the previous regime rather than being reminded year after year with Korpisalo's salary retention. Yes the prospect pool is super light, but this is something that I would do.

I think we're all going to be disappointed with the return on Chychrun unfortunately. I tend to agree with you on Joseph, but trading him was more fun for this ACGM. While I hate Domi, I think he'd be a beast on a 3rd line with Greig and Joseph.

What OTT (and really every NHL team) should do is offer Bob Essesna like $5m a year to come over from Boston ...

Also they should 1000% buy out Korpisalo

Honestly a high prospect and 2nd round pick would be far preferable to a 1st rounder IMO.
