The defense is just atrocious and not much secondary scoring
Krug just cannot play defense anymore.
Faulk dealt with injuries. Could bounce back.
Leddy was solid but ideally not a top pairing LD
Parayko was great and hopefully can be better with a better partner

The likes of Kessel, Perunovich, Tucker needing more minutes but only 2 spots.

For starters, Holl is far from needed so pass. Blues trying to offload a contract or two from the blue line (NOT PARAYKO TORONTO FANS)

i think the plan is next year may be rough, but some of these NTC become M-NTC next offseason, so we should be able to reconstruct the defense at the same time players like Bolduc, Dean, Dvorsky, Snuggy are playing meaningful minutes.
End goal is getting younger while still remaining competitive

Plan is the same as last year. Armstrong calls it a "Retool" but I call it a "Quiet Rebuild". Trying to make playoffs for some extra revenue, but stuck between not trying hard enough and not tearing down enough. I doubt much will change - just getting another year closer to the end of some contracts, and integrating some of the younger guys as they become ready.

Unless it's a top pair guy coming in (precursor being one of Leddy/Krug/Faulk moved out somehow) I don't think they'll change the defense. Hopefully they can find a gem or two in the draft and start to plot out the turnover that will happen in 2-3 years.

FWIW I don't think Kapanen is gonna be invited back, I think his spot is going to Marcus Sylvegard who they just signed out of SHL.

I just saw some adv stats and it suggested that Krug was better this past season (neither “good” in an objective sense), plus the buyout is shorter.

lol fair enough. Just wanted to use the remaining cap on some cap dump to justify a buyout.

$1.1M x4 to buyout Holl.

So yeah, that's not happening.

Oh I'm not necessarily against the concept. But the player chosen and the payment are both nah.

Heh. Advanced stats are to maybe add context, not to go straight off of. Leddy was at least B+ this season, and I'd almost nudge him to A-, which is what some of the local writers had him at. Krug was generally a nightmare. He had a few good stretches, but he's a problem. A big problem. And not even really defensively. The cheap giveaways killed us.

Not at all Krug was so bad that a rookie defensemen in Kessel had to come up and play with him just to save his ass. For example Krug ended a game with 5 points and was still a minus two that game.

Leddy on the other hand played against teams top lines most nights.
