Next Year Habs

Team: 2024-25 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: May 7, 2024
Published: May 7, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'm going about Habs taking the 5th pick of the draft; and with the possibility of Lindstrom still available.

For those that will go off on the Marner trade, remember this is only what the Habs could offer and other teams may come in as well and offer more or less.. This is only if Leafs would consider the HABS trade to get the ball moving and rebuild their blue line and get draft picks.

I'd sign Mantha for one year to see how he turns out playing in MTL with the notion of an extension if he is able to play well. If not a winning thing, then you have Joshua Roy that be brought back in.

With the addition of Matt Roy at the blue line, and the extension of Marner you still have 35M$ left over in 2025-26 to sign Slaf and Ghule at let's say 10M$ a piece long term, then have 15M$ left over to resign Struble, RHP and Primeau who are not gonna command 5M$ a piece.

If you want to extend Evans you'll have room left.

Savard would most likely be traded by TDL to give him a chance at the cup, Kovacevic can also be traded during the year to make way for Mailloux, Reinbacher or Hutson.

I start Engström, Hutson, Mailloux and Reinbacher in Laval, no need to panic with these guys and let them develop, if need be, they can comeback up if they prove their value at an NHL level, until then.. Develop these guys in the AHL.

The harder decisions will be in 2026-27 when a few of the younger guys will become RFAs, who do you keep who do you sell off?

Come one. He's a scorer in a team that is over inflated at the front line with guys that are all about their point total. He's got 80+ pts and would be one hell of an addition. Also, I imagine he'd want to wreck the Leafs when they play against one another.

If he came here and produce 80+pts with Suzuki and Caufield, the whole MTL fanbase would completely lose it.

At this point I think Marner would waive his NMC to go to any team. Just to get out of Toronto and show he can be that player for a team.

As for the Anderson contract, Leafs would need a player that can go into corners and hit, while he wasn't great this year in points, he's still a bigger guys able to hit and move the puck. And if that doesn't pan out they have the ability to buy him out, or retain and trade.

i dont think marner is looking to get out, but assuming thats correct then i agree leafs need someone who can hit , go to the corner and move the puck, anderson doesnt do any of that consistently

So you watched the playoffs and said to yourself “Marner is the guy the Habs need to win a Cup.” The guy that wants nothing to do with the physicality of the playoffs is the guy that’s gonna get them there. Brilliant!!!!
Like Bergevin use to say “there are guys that get you to the playoffs and guys that get you through the playoffs”. Marner definitely isn’t getting any team through the playoffs. I wouldn’t trade Pezzetta for that hack

I agree that during the last season he was out of it, but he was one hell of a train during the push to the finals for the Habs. Sometimes players will exceed expectations when facing adversity by being traded out. I would hope that Anderson could be one of these guys for Toronto knowing he’s got guys like Nylander, Matthews up front that will have the pressure of scoring.

You never know with these types of players.

I think you need to relax. Take a deep breath and tell yourself that these AGMs are only open discussions on ideas based on talks out there of a player being traded, then add the “What if..” aspect of it to the team we like.

I’m just looking at WHAT IF Marner is a target for Hugues for some reason. Not saying ge is, not saying Hugues and Gorton are salivating at the thought of this, it’s a WHAT IF…

Having a little fit about me wanting Marner in Mtl is off course and off topic. It’s a scenario of what would Mtl have IF this were to happen regardless of your views on a player, since we’re both behind little keyboards while actual scouts and GM look at players and see if they would fit within their team’s needs. So instead of having a fit, either you forget and move on or put something that has substance and tell yourself “While I would throw a hissy fit if they went for Marner, what is an actual deal that made as much sense as possible for both organizations if that deal went through, as I yell at my tv because I wouldn’t be happy!”

Bin d'accord, mais scrapper la masse pour un gars qui peine à mettre sa personne en première ligne et qui pleure sa vie sur le banc c'est pas bon pour la suite des choses.
