Continue Development

Team: 2024-25 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: May 3, 2024
Published: May 6, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade up at the draft to hopefully get a better player.

Move Maatta for roster spot.

Trade Fabbri for better defensive forward. Sturm is elite on face-offs as well.

Let Sprong, Gostisbehere, Kane walk.

Buyout Holl.

Re-sign Reimer for insurance in net. Re-sign Fischer and Perron for depth.

Sign Joshua and Roy to help with the defensive side of the game. Both bring a much needed element of physicality.

Berggren makes the team. Johansson makes the team and battles with Chiarot and Petry for a roster spot. Mazur makes the team, him, Veleno, Rasmussen, and Joshua battle for top 6 minutes.

See draft boards with Catton falling, if he does we take him. Otherwise MBN would be a great pick. Both stay in their leagues for this next season.

Kasper stays in GR to get minutes as 1C. Danielson joins him as 2C. ASP stays in Sweden this year. Cossa hopefully gets a few games as well.

Kasper and Danielson first call up for forwards if injuries happen. Wallinder first call up for defensemen.

This team won't score as much but should be much better defensively and harder to play against. Ideally we get good development from our top prospects. Likely finish worse than this season but given the draft next year, might not be such a bad thing.

Could see this team starting to really push for the playoffs come 25/26 season once more of the youth start making an impact.

I kind of thought that as well, just switching it up a bit.

I don’t love the Sturm trade, but I don’t hate it

Sharks probably decline at that price. Sturm's value to the Sharks, particularly with their lack of center depth, is probably at a minimum a 3rd but likely higher, and dumping Fabbri costs more than a 7th.

Other teams might value Sturm lower than that and by the TDL (or even after the draft) his value to the Sharks might go down, but he's the type of veteran they need in the locker room to teach the kids to give 100% every night even when they're 7 points behind second to last in the standings.

For the reasons you stated are why I want him. I could see the Sharks keeping him until the deadline, possibly beyond.
