Not at defense. He's an elite point producer but Leafs are playing a more rugged defensive game which doesn't suit him.

Parayko isn’t exactly good at defense. STL rolled the dice letting Pietrangelo go thinking Parayko could be the guy and that was the beginning of the end for STL.

Guys might NEED to go, but the ones that do have LEVERAGE in the form of a NMC that will allow them to choose what to do.

In JT's case---he's not going anywhere (that's his hometown for biggest reason as to why not) and frankly he's not worth his cap hit so no other team will want him enough to offer anything worthwhile to approach him.

Marner probably won't either as he has a larger form of leverage (sit me in the press box for a year and lose me for nothing in UFA).
