Yes, that could complicate things.

Maybe. But, watching the Leafs play, they definitely could use a 50 point puck moving rhd to command that top PP. Losing Knies probably hurts you guys, but I think this helps both teams target some areas.

Think Leafs would expect much better out of a deal with Seattle.

I don't know man. You get a forward who was an all star this year, a young rugged rhd on a good contract, plus a 1st and 3rd. On top of that, you gain a bit of cap space, pretty good return imo. Marner is expiring after this year as well, so that probably lowers his value.

Let's start with Marner, yes he will be expiring but any deal he's included in will be essentially his choice and will likely come with an extension since he has a full NMC which of course would lower his value slightly. Despite this, he's still a 90-100 point winger that is consistently in Selke conversations.

The two most comparable trade situations would be Eichel to Vegas and Tkatchuk to Florida.

Eichel to Vegas: Tuch + Krebs + 1st + Second

Tkatchuk to Florida: Weegar + Huberdeau

The trade you proposed is significantly lesser than both of those deals with the issue being Borgen who is pretty much a filler as hes a 27 y/o bottom pairing defenseman on a non-playoff team.

I think Seattle if Marner was willing to waive would be a great destination but I think any deal likely starts with one of Dunn, Larsson, or Oleksiak with one of Bjorstrand or McCann.

Borgen had a very good season. He had 25 points, more than both Larsson and Oleksiak. He would have been 1 point behind Brodie for 3rd place on your team in D scoring. I have watched him tons on the Westcoast. If I had my choice out of Larsson, Oleksiak or Borgen, I would be going with Borgen, way more upside.

Nice try with Knies! Did you watch his playoff game this year vs last year? He is a beast now and will get beastier...I think this trade is a no from Toronto.

Don't know how much more upside you expect from a 27 y/o that is very sub-par defensively and has limited usability in your top 4. If the leafs wanted to go for a defenseman like that I would rather just keep Liljegren.

Not to mention you listed Liljegren as worth a 3rd and a 4th which given his value should theoretically be higher than Borgen's, would make the Marner deal all the more bad for the Leafs

I sure did, looks like a great young player, but your also getting a top pairing dman back, that can play on your top PP for 6-7 years. So there's that.

Powerplay solves are a lot easier with competent coaching staff, no need to shell out your most promising young offensive player (which has notoriously struggled in the playoffs) for a PP quarterback

Ya but I feel like they will sign Montour for that, don't see them trading Knies. I could see a 3 way deal though with Marner/Hronek and a 3rd team.

He's not just a PP quarterback, he's a top pairing dman that has 50 point upside every year. There is value in that. How many RHD score 50 points each season?

I completely understand that he's great defenseman, but it would be a mismanagement of assets to trade Knies and a first for him

All I can say from watching Treliving in Calgary, anything is possible.
