I wouldn't give Nemec up

I agree, I'd just pass. Its a dream for Jersey, not a reality. Our D needs to get playoff ready, losing Nemec goes the other way. Everyone could use a Chucky, he has great hockey needed skills.

Downgrading one of our biggest weaknesses (Dcore) to add yet another 8 mill winger would simply be a terrible idea

I would center a trade around any of the high priced pieces tho

Hamilton, Bratt, or Meier.

But a trade like that would be pointless for Ottawa

An older offensive Dman
Small soft winger
Older downgrade winger

None of these would help the Sens or fit the direction

I disagree about Bratt, he is anything but soft. Small, sure, but he is the opposite of soft.

But yes, none of them would make particular sense for Ottawa like I said.

But a trade like this, giving up massive assets on top of Nemec would be awful.

I could instead trade 10th overall+Schmid+2nd for something like Fehevary+17th overall (may have to add slightly),

And then move that 17th overall for Ullmark

And then have Fehevary+Ullmark+Nemec for about the same cap hit as just Tkachuk. Much better for NJD.

I just feel like Mercer + 10th overall pick would be like ottaea removing a really good top liner and replacing him with likely a 2nd liner and probably #2/#3 D. Better depth but they lose at the top

Oh yeah it would be a tough pill to swallow 100% going from Tkachuk to Mercer, and would only even make the tiniest bit of sense if Tkachuk demands a trade.

But from history teams don’t ever really trade the Nemec type young pieces with control. The Nemec’s, the Wyatt Johnson’s, the Slafs, Cooley’s, Sanderson

But my view is just based on comparing to some of the other biggest packages, and Mercer+10th would rank very high among those packages.

Imo it’s very similar if not better than the Matthew Tkachuk package depending on how you view rentals, and long term high priced extensions on UFAs you bring in (I don’t value them particularly highly)
