Leafs Marner trade and free agency swings

Description
Limited what you can do on the back end with the cap distribution set up as is, and even with trading Marner you need to replace that scoring (or I guess just flat out add it if we're talking playoffs). I admit the trade might be too much for Marner considering the limited market due to his contract, but interested to hear Anaheim fans' opinion of it. If Stamkos hits UFA, you'd think him coming home would be an obvious connection, and DeBrusk has killed the Leafs so many times with his speed, shot, and hands, all traits the Leafs need come playoff time. Again, that's if Boston lets him hit the open market, and let's face it - that's unlikely. I'd like to see Toffoli come in around the same $ on less term if not DeBrusk. Lyubushkin was good again with the Leafs and should be an affordable option on the right side to play top four minutes. Pesce and McCable could be a good old-school shutdown pairing, and let Benoit play with the young guys. Zegras allows Tavares to slide down to the third line as well which helps, although not ideal with his cap hit.

Marner isn't getting the Ducks any closer to winning the stanley cup next year so why would they trade for him?

Have the cap room for the extension, get high value for Zegras who they don't seem to want. Doesn't get them to the Stanley Cup next year, but maybe the Playoffs, and then potentially 8 years after that. Would have to be with an extension.

Yeah but that doesn't happen, so Anaheim is trading for 1 year of marner.

ANA isn’t trading Zegras or their only promising RD prospect for Marner. Most of their veterans have also outright said they don’t want to play there (Gudas, Fowler, Gibby). If Marner is on the move this offseason, it isn’t to ANA

. . . get high value for Zegras who they don't seem to want . . .

Who told you that?

Zegras is a fan favorite, a teammate favorite, and a coaches favorite.

Could he be traded? Sure, if the right offer comes out of the blue. But he's not on the market and we Anaheim fans doubt that he moves.

Avs don't need an overpaid 4C. They won't be spending that kind of money on the bottom of the roster.
