Guhle is by far better than Vlasic, but Kent Hughes is a master to underpaid his players.

its doesnt seem Hughes' style, he knows its better to sign him to 8 years with a bit lower aav and save in that time frame. if we bridge ghule then that next aav may be north of 7.5-8 instead of 6-6.5

I cant BELIEVE you're comparing Guhle to Vlasic.
Xhekaj is closer to Vlasic in value.
Guhle deserves 7 x 6M, if he bridges 2,3 years he'll get 4, 4.5M.
Which shows how overpaid Vlasic is

I think they maked the same type of mistake of what the Sabres did with Samuelsson.....

“By far better”, is based on what, the fact that he’s younger, less experienced, has more of an injury history, and plays less minutes per game?

“Well, he was drafted higher. First round picks are worth more.”

Agreed. Drafted after Drysdale, who was drafted 6th overall the same draft year, so by that same logic, he should therefore make less than Drysdale on a 3 year bridge?

It would be if they did. Best way to wreck a young player, make them entitled by giving them a truck load of money before they’ve actually accomplished anything.

Marty St. Louis as a model epitomizes to our players that they know they need to first earn what they will get.

Guhle “isn’t” anything right now. We all believe he will be. But successful teams don’t pay for hope, or future. They pay for proven successes. Especially when this contract will serve as a comp for every young D on our team that will sign later.

If Guhle won’t take 3x2.3+6+7.25x4=$41.9mm/8=$5.2375mm cap hit max, then we wait until end of next season, and bridge him. Better for the team long term, rather that creating a culture of entitlement that is antithetical to who their coach is.

Good question. Maybe a dozen.
Do you disagree that with my thought that Vlasic is overpaid or that he's not a comparable to Guhle?

Vlasic is paid as a top two defenseman for the Blackhawks right now. As determined by situational usage, and ice time. That’s also what he projects to be going forwards.

Overpaid vs. Underpaid is a subjective opinion, I don’t find there’s much utility going there with my mind. Cuz subjective opinions? Meh…. It is what it is.

The relevant comp for Guhle is players from his draft class and age bracket. I do not believe Guhle should command a higher cap hit than Vlasic on a 6 year deal. On an 8 year deal yes, because two extra UFA years.

Ok. Well time will tell. Either I'm way out to lunch and I don't see all the 'good' everyone sees, or Vlasic's ability to play top-end minutes on a good team increases.
I don't understand how people think he's a top2 dman when he played what 20, 21 minn ATOI on the 30th best team.
I can't think of any dman drafted outside of the 1st round who developed on a bad team and still ended up being top2. Anywayys, we'll see...that's enough from me
