Leaf fans obsession with Habs players have finally moved on from Anderson (at half retained no less lol) to Kovacevic... He's in almost every leafs ACGMs.... what's with the obsession?

Granlund played well, He should be worth some more than just Lilligren

MTL has so many young defense they can move 1 and Kovacevic is NHL ready and probaly not as high a prospect as the rest of their defense so easy to move.
TML need a solid stay at home 3rd pair D that is low on cap so works great .

After searching for a while this almost seems like the best option for Lilly and a good option for TML but at 5M Granlund would be hard to fit.
Didn't check they had no retention slots doh!
It would cost around a 4th to get 1 year retained by another team so you pay another team to retain.

Wouldn't consider Kovacevic as part of MTLs defense prospects. He's turning 27 this summer. But yeah, he's definitely one of their depth Dman.

But I don't personally see why MTL would help the Leafs with their defensive struggles just to be compensated for 4th and a 5th rd pick. Is it market value for Kovacevic? probably. But from the looks of things, there would be a lot of teams looking to add him.
So, following simple supply & demand...If several teams are all offering 4th + 5th rd picks for him. Someone is going to probably step things up to 3rd rd pick, and If there are still a few teams willing to up their bid. On and on it'll go.

Now, I doubt Kovacevic could get a 2nd rd pick...but's it's not unheard of. Marco Scandella (another depth Dman) was acquired by MTL for a 4th rd pick, then flipped for a 2nd rd pick a month later...why? Supply and demand.
