I guess PLD managed a single shot over the final 4 games. (It was in game 2, so it’s been a minute)

Admittedly only watched about half of them due to timezone/work.

Looking thru individual game stuff….it’s so bad. For example, the numbers tell me he was the worst skater on the ice in game 2 by every way to measure it, and that was a game his team won and scored 5 goals.

https://www.hockey-reference.com/boxscores/202404240EDM.html

Did he look as bad as his stats look? If there’s no injury…

Yep he was coasting, a step behind every play. Someone who doesn't follow hockey asked if that guy does any conditioning at all or does he just roll out of bed and show up for games like a rec player.

Yes, mainly because PLD would actually be in the 1/3 ratio since he's under 26

Yep and for those who go oh look at all that dead money

So far that 8.5m a year for 7 more years is looking like dead money anyway and considering LA dont have a tonne of cap and need a goalie this is something to heavily consider

As you can get cheaper 3c's

Maybe but 14 years is a crazy long time, I think the safer bet is probably to see if he can bounce back.

Imma def give PLD the benefit of the doubt of the ignorant since he could be playing through something, but like if not… his NMC starts July 1, dude maybe should consider packing. Wonder if the kings would trade with the flyers for Hart? That’s kinda a cool gamble. If hart is found innocent he still may need a fresh start to return maybe?

Valid, but in 8 years when the cap hit bottoms out at 1.13m, that could be equal to just a league minimum contract or possibly below league minimum.

I can't see them buying him out, They'll trade him before his NMC kicks in or hope he bounces back (which I'm fairly sure he will).

I mean he was rumored to be involved in Ullmark deal at the deadline that fell through because of a trade clause on Ullmark. So I can't see him being untradeable.

Really only way they buy him out imo is Byfield signs lucrative offersheet, and LA panics.

He's got little to no value and they would probs lose any trade he's involved in. You think BOS wants him when they got 2 cheaper guys doing better

The buyout is to good rn to pass up as a 40 point 3c making 8.5m is just sad at this point. Use the funds elsewhere like getting a goalie, extending Roy, etc.

He was a 60 point center before this year.... 40 points isn't his normal.

In his 7 years in the NHL he has hit 60 points three times in full 82 game seasons

Twice in WPG and once with CBJ

For 8.5m and for a guy whose supposed to be a top 6 C taken 3OA thats not really good.

He's been inconsistent and this year his value has really tanked especially after his playoff performance

Like Zacha and Coyle have put up similar production and cost less than 8m

LA has a tough choice to make but the buyout number is to good to pass up IMO especially considering LA is right up against the cap, needs a goalie, among other things and can get it done via said buyout

You’re probably right but we thought it would go up in 2020 and look what happened lol. There very well could be another unforeseen thing that happens between now and then. Probably not, but it could happen and if it did you’re stuck with that cap hit no matter what.

Yah I doubt he’s untradeable, he’s still youngish and has potential to be a lot better

Nylanders career arc in Toronto has gone from whipping boy who’s being whipped with a metal bat, to golden Swedish boy who can do no wrong, to retire 88 lol.

This may be controversial but with how TOR has played these last 2 well besides PP wise

I would not consider not playing Matthews game 7 even if he's good to go

Leafs have been playing their best hockey without him and my concern is him returning could derail the whole thing or not idk. Like this is the kind of hockey we need to see from them for a game 7

Save him for FLA.

Well unless Wes is the ref for game 7 then just throw him in **** it were doomed anyway lul
