2025 pick with extension, sure...but no guarantees and the pick is top 15 AND a good shutdown D? Overpay

You seem to have traded the wrong goalie to NJ there

The 2024 1st is a top-10 pick. I know it’s a lousy draft year, but both trades still seem to undervalue where market would price that pick.

I don't think NJ wants to trade Marino and I don't think Boston wants to trade Peeke. This isn't about which player is better, but rather the strategy of how the Bruins are constructing their D corps and what their missing pieces are. I also have to agree that a top 15 pick for 1 year of Ullmark is an overpay, but the idea that it would be enough for Swayman is also a bit laughable.

Also more generally, this is a complete blowup of the roster, and I am not convinced that this team wins more games than the one they are icing this year.

The comp would be Swayman vs Schneider

Schneider going for a top 10 pick 1 for 1

You could argue the market is different now, but I’d disagree with the statement that Swayman is better than Schneider was.

Top 10 pick being the most any goalie has gone for in a long time, the argument is that adding a very significant piece like Marino brings it into the ballpark.

Until we see such a trade go through to reset the market, the Schneider deal should remain as a benchmark

That is probably a good comp at least in a vacuum, but market dynamics are not the only thing that dictates a trade though. If you are going to pry a core player away from a team, it needs to be a true hockey trade (swap core need for core need), they need to require draft capital more than roster players (perhaps surprisingly, this does not apply to the Bruins right now), or you need to blow their socks off. Don Sweeney with a, lets say #13, #14, or #15 pick (ahem) is not going to blow anyone's socks off.

Any GM that does a trade like that while the team is competitive is taking on all of the risk and putting their job that season directly in jeopardy if the team falls off. But they would rarely lose their job by just keeping the player even if the team falls off.

As much as the Avs love LOC I think they'd probably have to accept that one though of course it's reliant on the first trade going through.

People keep on talking the market for goaltenders. The sample size with goalies this talented and young is too small to make any indication. GMs like to be employed, so they don’t make it to the market often.

The irony is Vancouver picked the one player in the first round that was left were that trade wasn’t a bad decision. Maybe Josh Morrissey would have been viewed favorably. Id argue that pick in that draft is worth more than the pick you are talking here.

Boston is in win now mode and its two star players fit Swayman’s timeline. I don’t see picks being the primary compensation piece

Barring Linus Ullmark making a run in the playoffs, I’m not trading Swayman. If I am, I believe that Jersey has a problem with the established talent that I’d consider for Swayman. I don’t believe they’d trade the guys necessary and the players they would trade,I think there will be better options on the market. All things equal, I’d trade him west.

It’s a pretty easy no as is.
