Description
I was doing a Sabers ACGM and they have quite the potential log-jam within their offensive prospects/young players. There's about 12 players here all 31 and under (With Skinner still on a deal the next few years) who would all be worthy of getting middle 6/top 6 time (With maybe Greenway being the only exception). So what's the plan here? Not all of them are going to get a far shot and develop properly so are they going to move one or two of them out? Will they trade a few for a bigger piece? They also haven't made the playoffs in forever so Adams clock is ticking and he needs to use this offseason as a way to get them there which will go directly against developing young prospects. Surely at least 3-4 of these guys won't be on the Sabers roster in 3-4 years so who will it be? A couple of these guys need to start getting solid minutes pretty soon (Kulich, Savoie, Ostlund, Quinn, Rosen) but with guys like Skinner and Tuch in the top 6 that just isn't possible. Also what's the plan with Krebs, he just isn't working out in Buffalo and will be forced to play in the bottom 6 again next year if he stays, do they trade him?

Skinner is going to lose his spot in the top six as he gets older and his offense no longer out paces his defense. Theyre not going to move any of their prospects. They need a steady flow of ELC deals b/c theyre not in a position to spend anywhere near the cap. I doubt the lines will be exactly this but most are projecting:

Peterka-Thompson-Tuch

Benson-Cozens-Quinn

Skinner-Krebs-Kulich

Girgensons-trade-Greenway

Rosen

Dahlin-Power

Samuelsson-Byram

Johnson-Clifton

FA signing

Jokiharju is probably the odd man out and gets flipped for a 3 or 4c. Krebs stays in the bottom six. Savoie gets a full year in the AHL. Ostlund is 2 years away.

I wouldn’t be shocked if they traded krebs he just doesn’t do anything good. Kulich and savoie would be more productive if they played in his role this year.

Good questions. Obviously we cant say for certain what the organization's plans are, but I'll take a brief stab at guessing. Plenty of talent is a good problem to have and one the Sabres have never had so Im not sure how they will approach it. You gotta keep Kulich and Savoie imo. Rosen would be nice to keep but he would need top 9 playing time. The other very talented forward prospects are moveable or simply take time developing them before they sniff the NHL. Krebs is fine to stay as a 4th line grinder and can move up when injuries happen. Here's how I would project Top 9 forward lines in 2-3 years without any trades:

Peterka-Thompson-Quinn
Benson-Cozens-Tuch
Savoie-Kulich-Rosen

4th line can be anyone, Id love to see Biro, Kozak, and Nadeau earn spots there. Ostlund is expendable imo in a trade to solidify our D core. However, if he stays in the SHL for 24-25 then plays 1-2 years in the AHL there could be a spot for him
